I go to the cinema almost once a week. The film I've seen recently is called Closing the ring. It's a deeply moving love story. Spaning two continents and a half century. I liked it very much. kiki Wed Sep 10 at 21.50 Last night almost at midnight my son heard strange noise around the bathroom wall. Then he called me to make sure that it was his mere fancy or not. We listened carefully then the noise came out again. It seemed like a little animal was scratching something. We didn't know exactly from where and what to do. Then we gave up thinking about it and I went to bed. He said while he was having the bath the noise disappeared We were relieved. We didn't hear any noise tonight so far. Was it a rat? If so, I wonder where did it come and go? Kiki Tue Feb 5 at 23.10 And the film title we couldn't recall was of course 'Silence Of The Lambs'. Simon Wed Nov 28 at 7.59 Dear Keiko, I have to apologize for my mistake at the class. I mixed up the film Love story with Melody. That's why there was a gap in our conversation. Since I found out my mistake I was relieved. Sorry again. See you in two weeks time. Kiki Tue Nov 27 at 22.07 Hello' Aya. I found out what the DVD you mentioned yesterday is called on the Net. It's called Grey's Anatomy. Simon you're right. Grey is a heroin's name and it's came from the famous science book called Gray's Anatomy. The third series is going to start in October on WOWOW TV. It sounds interesting. Unfortunately I don't have it. Kiki Wed Sep 19 at 14.07 I read a Michiko’s blog written about Hippocratic Oath. It reminded me of The Nightingale Pledge. When I was nursing school we had to lean it by heart and recite it every morning. I think it came from Hippocratic Oath. I’ve forgot most sentences but I remembered the meaning of it. Kiki Mon Sep 17 at 11.30 Last week I went to my daughter's home. While she cleaned the house,I went to the park with my granddaughter. There’re swings, sandboxes and sliders there. She likes swings. But she didn't swing by herself and so I swung. We had a good time. Cherry Sat Jul 7 at 11.13 I went to my daughter's family flat with my husband last Saturday. It has been two months since they moved to the new flat. Their flat is very modern. There're a waste disposal built into the sink, a dish washer and an I.H cooker ("I.H" stands for induction heating.) in their kitchen. And there's a kid room in the ground floor. If we wanted to see our children, we could see them from each flat on TV. Modern flats have good securities and facilities. I'm jealous. Meg Thu Jul 5 at 11.47 During a long holiday in this class, I borrowed three books and a tape. One was a thriller called "Don’t look now". It was too difficult to understand for me. Another was a love story called "Persuasion". I thought it easy to understand. Both of them were penguin reader's level 2. The other was a fairy story called "Alice's adventure in wonderland". It was the original one. There were a lot of unfrequented words. So I gave up to read it. The tape recording was from the book called "The Piano". I wanted to borrow the book at that time but there hadn't been any copied here. I bought it at Libro. It was a nice story. Yayoiko Mon Jun 18 at 17.02 I went to a reunion party in Ginza the week before last Friday. There were thirty people in there .We had been to New Zealand in different time. We had stayed at home in N.Z. We had studied English at the English school in the morning and had practiced golf in the afternoon. We dinn't know each other thougt we enjoyed a nice time. Meg Wed Jun 13 at 14.33 I received an e-mail from an English friend. She is going to come to Japan in August. She asked me what you want to have from England as her present. She knows that this year is special year for me. She already has got some tea and some blue bell bulbs for me. I thought that’s enough for me. I would like to say her I’m just happy to have you and spend time with you in Tokyo. I wondered how to express my feeling polite words. Kiki Sat May 26 at 11.19 Some of my friends are going to Cherry blossoms viewing to the Inperial palace park tomorrow. I can't go but if I could I'd take pictures. I have my house repaired then I have got builders in. Apricot Wed Mar 28 at 22.10 I went to Suntory Hall to see a concert yesterday. It was played by the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by Zubin Mehta. When they started playing music I was moved to tear by their beautiful sounds. I've never heard such a wonderful sound. Especially the strings sounds were beautiful. A conductor has changed the feeling of music.I like his conduct. After the end of the concert some people stood up to clap. The applause was very long. Apricot Mon Mar 19 at 19.32 Hi,Kiki. Long time no see. How are you? I'm fine. By the way, I've got a similar topic. Surely, we often say "nice shot". But we would also say " nice shoot", expecially when soccer or basketball players reach the goal. But "shoot" is a verb, as you know. I think it's an interesting Japanese English. fumi Mon Feb 5 at 21.15 I watched an interesting TV program called Eigo de shaberanaito the other day. The guest on that day was famous golf player called Ai Miyazaki. She said that when some one hit a ball very well Japanese people say "nice shot!" but American say "good shot". I wondered what's difference nice and good. Kiki Thu Jan 25 at 0.37 I saw a film called Flags of our Fathers the other day. It was wonderful. It's based on a true story about the Second World War in Iojima. There was a fierce battle between the US and Japan there. During the battle the US Marine Corps finally raise the flag the Star and Stripes on the top of the Suribati Mountain. Then some US newspapers showed the photos of the scene. After that 3 marines who related it were used as propaganda for raising money for the war as heroes. The film told about their lives. Clint Eastwood directed it. Kiki Fri Nov 17 at 23.27 Today, I maked a ' Moss Bear'. It is a garden ornament that you can see in a pot with plants. I'm going to tell you how to make it. First you need some dryed moss, a bucket, some water, some string, a pair of scissors, some 1/6 cut 22 gauged stub wires, and three buttons for bear's eyes and a nose. Soak the moss in the bucket. Mass and press it to make the parts of the bear, a head, ears, arms, legs, and a body. To keep their shapes, coil up them with the string . Join the parts by U-pins made of the wires. Place buttons on its face. Choco Sat Oct 14 at 23.54 Thank you for your interest in my blog. I'm afraid I don't know the painter. I found the painting in somebody else's blog. http://hana-mizuki.cocolog-nifty.com/hanamizuki/cat2191237/index.html MichikoSimon Thu Oct 12 at 22.19 I am interestead in Michiko's blog a day before yesterday. I have looked other photographs of Constance, but I haven't look this portrait. She looks satisfied with her life in the picture. Do you know who painted it? choco Thu Oct 12 at 20.27 I got a fax from my granddaughters. They said please live long and stay healthy. Then I remembered that today was Respect for the Aged Day. I had a complicated feeling. Kiki Mon Sep 18 at 23.16 I've been very busy recently. My working time has changed since in August. Before, I worked three days a week from 3:30 to 6:30. But now I have to work four days and working hours increased 30 minutes. Besides I joined the Social Networking Service called mixi. I spend a lot of time at my computer. I enjoyed talking people on the Net who I hadn’t even met. Simon, I found a kite photo group in a community. There are 30 people in it. They showed JKPA's URL. Kiki Fri Sep 15 at 22.13 One of my hobbies is tole painting. I painted a yellow penstand with a picture of wild strawberry on it last week. This is for a school bazaar in November. Noel Sun Sep 3 at 22.54 I have watched a TV. It's called "high school students quiz". 51schools competed each other to be winner. And the winner is URAWA high school! There is it in my town. This progrum takes place once a year. I'm looking forward to watching it next. Takuya Fri Sep 1 at 23.35 My favorite summer activity is swimming. I'm not good at sports, but I like swimming, because I went to a swimming school from I was four to I was nine. My favorite swimming pool is in Asaka city in Saitama prefecture, it's called "Waku Waku Dome". "Waku Waku" means exiting. The pool is big and clean, and it's very cheep. It costs two hundred(200)Yen for under junior high school students. There is a floowing pool, a children's swimming pool, and a twenty-five(25) meters swimming pool and a jacuzzi. I like doing the crawl more than the breast stroke or back stroke. Also, I prefer swimming in the pool than in the sea. I'm very busy this summer so I have'nt got time to go there. I'm going to go to there next summer. James Sun Aug 27 at 22.21 I'm going to tell you two stories about my mother, who likes growing things. My first story is about a snail. About two weeks ago, my mother found a snail in some vegetables which my grandfather have grown. She put it in a small bottle and she gave it some cucumbers and lettuce leaves. It was very small snail, but it is growing bigger everyday. My second story is about a caterpillar. Before that, my mother had also looked after a caterpillar. One day, she bought a parsley pot at a flower shop in my town. Then she found a caterpillar on the parsley. She was very interested in what it will grow into. She also put it into an insect cage. She gave it some organic parsley. For a while, she continued to feed it and the caterpillar became a pupa. Then one morning the pupa became a butterfly and flew away. I'm very interested in what my mother is going to look after next. Jake Sun Aug 27 at 22.17 I'm going to talk about a foreigner called Peter. He's from Holland. I've been met him at once. But I have a few I know him well, because my father told us a lot about him. He is one of my father's business partners. About four years ago, Peter sent him an email. In it, he asked my father if I had any Pokemon goods. At that time, I did have some unwanted Pokemon goods. So I sent them to him with a short letter. After that I had a message from him. He said his two boys were very happy to have them and they had showed them to classmates. Recently, my father told me that Peter had moved to France for his job. And he has a chance to come to Japan soon. I hope to see him again if possible. John Sun Aug 27 at 22.13 The day before yesterday I took my granddaughters to the cinema in Ikebukuro. We saw a film called Heidi. It's based on a children's story written by Johanna Spyri. It was an English film but we saw a Japanese dubbed one. The child actresses were very well and scenery was wonderful. Charlie Chaplin's daughter was also in it. Kiki Thu Aug 17 at 23.47 Hello, John, Jake and James. I enjoyed reading your massages. They were very interesting. But what is a snap? Jake. Is it a little creature like insect? I couldn't find proper translation for the word in my dictionary. Please tell me. Kiki Sat Aug 12 at 0.24 3. Apricot Sat Oct 8 at 21.06 I watched an interesting TV program yesterday. It was about a garden in Vermont in the US. It was wonderful. An old picture book writer called Tasha Tudor has been looking after the garden for about 30 years. The TV showed around one year of the garden. I learned how hard growing flowers are. I was very surprised to hear that she was influenced by Graham Bell. She said her mother and his daughter were cross friends. She uses old cooking tools yet. But she thanks every morning when she washes her face for Edison's invention of electricity. Before that she had to carry water long way from a spring. Kiki Sat Sep 24 at 17.19 Did you get the free tickets of the play, Apricot? I also read an article about the play. I like the actress Tomoko Naraoka. But I've never seen any of her plays. I was lucky that I could get two tickets. I'm going to there with a friend of mine. Apricot Tue Sep 20 at 22.08 Hi! Cherry, yes, we missed the Jane Austin center. We passed in front of it though. Do you think we should have gone there? I haven't read any of her books yet. But I saw a film called Emma based on her book. I'm interested in one of her books called Pride and Prejudice because in the film "You've got mail" the heroine often mentioned about the book. Since I saw it I wanted to read it but I didn't do it yet. I didn't know that the book Persuasion is in the class. Isn't it difficult to read? I'd like to read it near future. Kiki Mon Sep 19 at 11.56 This morning I went to a gardener in Angio in my daughter's car. There were a lot of the gardeners.I bought some photogenic flowers and two fig trees. One of my favorite fruit is a fig.I sometimes get some figs at a fruit shop but they always aren't sweet enough to eat.So I wanted to grow up them in my garden.Paphaps I will be able to eat the nice them next year. Apricot Sun Sep 18 at 16.54 I borrowed three books from our English school this summer holiday.I wanted to read them during last August. But I only finished one of them called "Persuasion" yesterday. Jane Austen wrote it. When I had been to Bath with Kiki, there was the Jane Austen center in Gay Street. We had gone through there by a taxi several times. If we had had enough time to go there, we could have seen the Jane Austen's life and work. The story reminded me of Bath. Cherry Sun Sep 18 at 12.23 I saw a lot of friends of hers and found out her living in the US. And I went to see her new boss yesterday. He hopes that she will work hard. She has good friends and a good job here. I thought it would be uncomfortable to live in a foreign country. I found she enjoyed living here. I was really relieved. See you soon. Anti Fri Sep 16 at 10.53 Wow! It's great that you sent a lot of messages from the US, Anti. I'm impressed with all of them. It's getting cooler here in Tokyo. Today there's a cool breeze blowing. I believe that your English improved a lot. See you soon. Kiki Thu Sep 15 at 16.52 Thank you, Cherry. I saw the Statue of Liberty from a ferry last week. The day before yesterday, my daughter asked a friend of hers to a botanical garden and chat with me for an hour. He is Joe. We went into Costa Rica Garden. There were a lot of plants and butterflies there. He told me about them slowly but I only understood a little bit what he was saying. I sometimes asked him to repeat it again. He tried telling me with simpler words. I enjoyed chatting with him. Anti Thu Sep 15 at 0.20 You are enjoying your holiday with your daughter, Anti. I’ve never been to America without Hawaii. Have you seen the Statue of Liberty yet? Did you go elsewhere? I’m looking forward to hearing about your trip. I’ve Cherry Tue Sep 13 at 10.37 We went to see the Niagara Falls yesterday. Anti Tue Sep 13 at 3.22 We went to a house of one of her friends yesterday. They had a small party for me. They speak English and Spanish. I could understand a little what they were talking in English, but when they spoke two languages I was confused sometimes. Their land and the house were so big that I could walk around. And it made me feel relaxed. Anti Sun Sep 11 at 19.09 It seems like you are having wonderful days in the US, Anti. I love musicals so I'd like to go to Broadway one day. I saw a film called Mother Teresa with a fried of mine. Of course it's about her life. It was wonderful. Olivia Hussey played the part of Mother Teresa. She was excellent. I cried a lot and I heard some people sobbing there. Kiki Sat Sep 10 at 11.40 I’m sorry I couldn't do the Internet for 3 days. We got back to my daughter’s in the morning. Yesterday we went to see a musical called Lion king on the Broadway. It was really good. I have never seen such an excellent show like this. Actors performed the parts in a play as if they were real animals. And I was surprised of the stage setting. It was just at the small stage but it seemed like in the jungle. I think that's why it attracts a lot of people for a long time. Anti Fri Sep 9 at 9.02 What a nice surprise to hear you from NY Anti. But I'm sorry about your flight and your toe. Without those you seem to be happy. Enjoy your holiday! I look forward to hearing about your trip. Kiki Mon Sep 5 at 14.26 Yesterday the flight delayed 3 hours and I stayed at Narita Airport for 6 hours. It was teribble. And I had another problem. In my hurry to go out of my house, I stumbled on a shue. One of the fingers of my right foot hurt. I thought it would get better soon. But when I got to the Airport it hurt a lot. I worried if it might be broken. I went to an Airport clinic and asked what to do. There wasn't a plastic surgery and a xray doctor there. I was stuck with poulticing it. Anyway I am in NY. I hope it dosen't hurt today. Anti Mon Sep 5 at 6.49 This morning I was really disappointed. I wanted to get an advance ticket of the concert by Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by Sir Simon Rattle. There were several ticket centeres for them. They started to sell them at 10am on the 3rd Sep. So I called just on time. But the lines were busy, but I went on calling. After one hour at last I make it! But they said all of the seats were sold out.It was surprising how quicly they were sold out. Apricot Sat Sep 3 at 12.31 Thank you very much for telling me about the film Vera Drake, Simon. The story was very sad but actresses and actors were excellent. I enjoyed it very much. Kiki Fri Sep 2 at 22.57 I saw a Japanese film called The Face of Jizo last night. It was based on a play written by Hisashi Inoue. The story was about a woman who was a survivor of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima. Rie Miyazawa played the part of the woman. She was wonderful. While I was watching it I cried all the time. Kiki Wed Aug 24 at 23.27 Thank you for the beautiful photographs you sent me by e-mail, Apricot. There were some photographs of flowers there. I don't know well flowers. I recognized only thistles. The normal color of pinecones is brown, but Oosirabiso's one is very beautiful purple. Your photographs are excellent. Cherry Sat Aug 20 at 20.59 I'm surprised to hear the news, Cherry. As you said she looked happy and healthy. I didn't talk much with her so I didn't know how old she was. But I thought that she was younger than I was. I felt that who could tell what might happen in the future. I'll pray for her. Kiki Fri Aug 19 at 23.14 I've got the sad news. When I went to England with Kiki, I met one of American women. We were the same group of bus tours. Next day we went to Wells, we saw her again in a bus by chance. I had taken her two photos in Stonehenge and sent them to her. Her husband sent me e-mail. It says that she died of a heart attack in England on the 3rd of May. It was just four days that we had seen her in the bus. She was a cheerful and friendly woman. Cherry Fri Aug 19 at 16.14 I'll scan some of my photographs into my P.C so that I can send you some of them with my email, cherry. I prefer relaxing in the summer. So I sometimes take a nap and listen to music. That's why I'm overweight. Apricot Tue Aug 16 at 21.47 You are enjoying this summer holiday, Apricot. I was interested in the Oosirabiso so that I looked for it on my computer. I'm looking forward to seeing your photos. I haven't any plane to go on a trip this holiday. I have been borrowing three books from our English school. But I haven't read them yet. Cherry Sun Aug 14 at 22.07 I took a lot of flower's photos at Tugaike and Happo-one in Hakuba. There were about 2000 meters above sea level. But WE went there by an aerial cableway. The weather wasn't fine though We could walk in the fresh air. The mountains were covered in the mists. There were magnificent scenery. Besides We saw very rare pine cones. The pine trees calld Oosirabiso have the purple conens once forty years. They were wonderful. Apricot Sat Aug 13 at 15.01 I also noticed the article about Peter Jennings. Although I haven't seen the ABC news so often, I thought he was good. In fact sister-in-law also has lung cancer. It has been two years since her illness was found. She has tried latest anticancer drugs one after another. Fortunately She's living at home quietly now. We are impressed with ever-progressing medical treatment. Ann Thu Aug 11 at 19.03 Today I knew that Peter Jennings died of lung cancer. From when I started studying English, sometimes I see the ABC news. I saw his reporting from Iraq. I'm his fan. On the April he said that he had had lung cancer. I thought that he looked not so seriously and might be on TV again. He was still 67. Cherry Wed Aug 10 at 0.37 It was two photographer's exhibition,Kiki. One is Mr Oide. He is a fashion designer. But he likes to take some flower's photos such as lotuses, roses and so on. He published his photos book. The other is Mr Hukuhara who is a previous president in Siseidou. He's been growing a lot of Orchids in his green house. I'm going Hakuba on a tour. In fact I want to go by myself, but it's impossible. Even in Chichibu I was lost. Apricot Sat Aug 6 at 15.53 Was it a famous photographer's exhibition or something? Apricot. I hear there are a lot of wild flowers in Hakuba. It's called a wild flower field, isn't it? Are you going there on a tour or by your self? I hope that you'll able to take beautiful photos of flowers. Have a nice holiday! Kiki Tue Aug 2 at 22.07 Dear Apricot, sorry I didn't tell you the detail of my experiences. Actually I was on a subway when the earthquake happened. I didn't feel any shakes at all. The subway I was on was just arrived Nishinipori at the time. After got off it I knew there was the strong earthquake so I took a taxi from there. It cost only 7 hundred 40 yen. I didn't spend much money. Kiki Tue Jul 26 at 18.58 It must have been expensive to come home by taxi,Kiki. I was in the Mitsukosi basement for shopping when the earthquake happened. I was shocked. I went to Omiya yesterday. One of our orchid groupe members is in hospital in Omiya. He's had a kind of leukemia. He's 80years old. Even though he's helped us as our leader. I've known him since I started growing orchids. I went to the hospital with a friend of mine who usd to has leukemia but she is getting better now. He was really glad to see her. I wish he will get well soon. Apricot Mon Jul 25 at 13.08 I'm sorry for my late reply, Apricot. You really love operas, do'’t you? And you seem like enjoying your life very much. Yesterday I went to Ginza to listen to a soprano recital. It was in the nexus hall in Chanel building. I'm not interested in any brand goods so I had never been there before. And I didn't even know there's a hall there. When I went in the building I felt that I was out of place. The recital was free. I hear Chanel is supporting young talented musicians. Before the recital they served some drinks for each audiences. The songs were beautiful. I had wonderful time. Unfortunately on the way home there was a quite big earthquake. Because of that most of the transportation stopped. I had to come home by taxi. Kiki Sun Jul 24 at 12.04 I saw an Opera 'Carmen' at the Orchard Hall last night. Kiki, Thank you very much for your kind. Apricot Thu Jul 7 at 21.23 Last night I watched the Wimbledon women's final on TV. At the beginning Miss. Davenport had been leading so I thought she would win soon. But I was wrong. Since the end of the second set Miss. Williams played very well. After all it lasted 2 hours 45 minutes and Miss. Williams won it. During the match I was getting sleepy but it was so exiting that I couldn't stop watching it. Kiki Sun Jul 3 at 15.16 Thank you very much for your interesting information, Ann. I got a lovely e-mail from an English friend. She told me about her daughter and lovely visitors in her garden. Her daughter is going to Wales for doing Duke of Edinburgh Award. She said she told me about that before. I might have heard about it when I went to England but I don't remember anything about that. I looked it up on the Net but I couldn't find any proper answers yet. I'll ask her more detail of that event. Two squirrels and a pheasant couple are coming in her garden. She is feeding them but mail pheasant complained her not to give him any peanuts because she gave them only sunflower seeds. I read her e-mail with smile. Kiki Wed Jun 29 at 21.48 Dear Kiki I think Koshiro's daughter Takako Matsu was good. My friend who is in the musical said her performance was very improving compared to the last one two years ago. I think the older she gets the better she plays. The next day we went it seemed that the Empress saw the musical. My friend said he got a bit nervous because the presence of the Empress changed the atmosphere of the theatre. His story was interesting. Ann Wed Jun 29 at 15.59 It sounds like you enjoyed the musical with your daughters, Ann. I saw the musical about ten years ago. At that time one of Kohshiro's daughters was also in it. What about this time? There are a lot of beautiful songs in it such as The Impossible Dream. Last Thursday I saw a film called Closer. It was boring. The actors and actresses were very good though. Kiki Sun Jun 26 at 23.34 This Monday I went to a musical called 'Man of La Mancha' with my two daughters. An actor called Kosiro Matsumoto has been playing the leading part of it for a long time. In fact a friend of mine plays the role of the priest in it. He's also a teacher of the chorus that I joined last year. After the performance, we visited him backstage. He talked about the musical enthusiastically. We had a great time. Ann Thu Jun 23 at 8.54 I saw an Opera called Salome at NHK Hall on saturday. The player were from Poland. I didn't have time the day it was on the air so I recorded it and saw it yesterday. It was wonderful. I was moved by it too. It was an old black and white one even though it seemed to be fresh. I found an interesting thing about the actress called Patty Duke. She was in the film as Helen's role and 17years later she acted Helen's teacher's role. Kiki Tue Jun 14 at 21.16 Thank you for your kind message Kiki. I saw a film called The Miracle Worker on TV last week.It was played for an actress Anne Bancroft's memorial. She died two weeks ago. The story is about a governess has helped a girl called Helen who couldn't see and hear at all because of high fever when she was a baby. Anne Bancroft played as the governess calld Ann who also has eyes ploblem, so she wore sunglasses. Six years old Helen's behavier was very bad, but her parents pitied her. They didn't understand how they could do for her. They asked Ann teaching her. Ann taught her a finger sign by the alphabet to communicate with the others. However it was very difficult but she had done it. I was really moved by the film. Apricot Sun Jun 12 at 13.35 I'm sorry to hear about the friend of yours, Apricot. I know how sad you are. But don't think too much about that. Cherry, the soba restaurant you went sounds interesting. It seems like that he runs it as his hobby. I'd like to go there someday. As you know one of my sisters in law also runs a soba restaurant. But she runs it for living. Kiki Wed Jun 1 at 23.27 Last Sunday I went to Chichibu with my husband by a Red Arrow express train. One of my husband's friends runs the soba restaurant there. He retired from his job. After that he opened the restaurant. He makes all processes by himself from to plant buckwheat seeds to serve soba to customers. So he plants them on August and harvests them on October. And he runs the restaurant from November to Jun. The restaurant is opened only Friday, Saturday and Sunday. His hobbies are to clime mountains and to make soba. His customers say that his soba is very nice taste. He said that he is very happy when he heard it. We enjoyed having a nice time to have soba, to drink beer and to see a nice view in the country. Cherry Tue May 31 at 10.50 I went to the school's annual reunion yesterday. We met at a Japanese restaurant called Hana in the Marunouchi Kokusai building. We had a really nice meal. About 20 people came there. However We were shocked to hear that one of our members had died. It was just one month ago. She was a leader. We always trusted her. Her family didn't want to tell us about her death. But we thought she may have killed herself. Because We got a post card from her which she had written in a red pen " I'm going to travel for a long time soon,so I won't be able to meet you" underneath it " I'm looking foward to seeing you" in a black pen. At first she wrote it in the black pen, after that she may have changed her mind. On the next day she posted it she had died. We didn't understand what happened with her. We were very sad. Apricot Mon May 30 at 21.50 I went to Tomobe in Ibaragi prefecture to see a friend of mine yesterday. She's got a new house there and moved from Tokyo last month. Her house is really modern. When I used the toilet I was surprised because it flushed automatically. Inside the house is also decorated modern and beautifully. I thought she has a good taste of decoration. I was supposed to go there with a friend but she couldn't come. I was sorry about that. I thought, if she had been there she would have seen her wonderful house. Kiki Mon May 30 at 11.40 Dear Apricot. I saw the film in a cinema called Chanter in Hibiya. I recommend it. Hello! Ann I'm glad to hear that you saw the web site. Do you have a copy of the book that your husband's company published? There are a lot of beautiful Cathedrals in England. I hope you'll be able to go there some day. I'd like to go there again. Kiki Wed May 18 at 22.54 Dear Cherry and Kiki It seems that I asked you the difficult question. Thank you for giving me some information. I tried taking a look at the website Kiki told me. I was able to understand it. Surprisingly my husband knows well about the book "Cathedrals of England" apeared at the website. In fact it was published by his company a few years ago. I was really surprised. I have never been to England. Reading your messages made me want to go there more and more. Ann Wed May 18 at 18.08 Where did you see it Kiki? I'd like to see it if I have time. I went to Chichibu by Express called Red allow of Seibu line yesterday. There were a lot of rhododendrons on a hillside in a forest. I found it on the Net. So I went there to take some photos. They were really wonderful. I've never seen such a mysterious floweres. But walking up and down was hard work for me. Bisides, when I went back to the bus stop there weren't any guides there. I followed some women. But we were lost in the forest for a while. I don't want to go there again. Apricot Wed May 18 at 11.50 I saw a film called The Sea Inside yesterday. It’s Spanish and it’s based on the true story. It’s about a man who had paralysis of all four limbs. When he was 25 years old he had the accident. He dived in to the sea. Unfortunately it was the ebb tide he broke his neck and had it. Afterwards he was in bed for 28 years. His family looked after him very kindly although he decided to have mercy killing. But it was illegal. The film tells us what he and his suporters did. I was very moved by the film. Kiki Tue May 17 at 10.30 I went to Toshimaen today. There's a nice Onsen. It's not so far from my house, so I've been there sometimes. I've got a foot massage. It was really nice. Also I had the open air bath in the wonderful view. I was very happy. Apricot Sat May 14 at 22.19 Dear Ann, It's hard to explain what the scissor arches are. But I'll try it. There are three sets of scissor arches in the Cathedral. I think they are kind of gates. They are in the nave and it looks like inverted scissors. I found one of the photos of it on the Net. People say that Seeing is believing. Please look at it. http://www.shikoda.org/wells3.htm Have you been to England, Ann? If you haven’t I recommend to go there. There are a lot of wonderful places to see. Kiki Sat May 14 at 21.52 Hi, Ann. I'm sorry that Ican't explain how to say in detail with my poor English. Usuallythere isn't anything under the ceilings above the altars in some Cathedrals. But there are some scissors formed arches in Wells Cathedral. They have been keeping the height and weight of Cathedral. Kiki explains it more to her, please. Cherry Sat May 14 at 14.39 Thank you for your message, Cherry. I understand your condition. I also got jet lag after I came back from the trip to Spain. Then I didn't feel like doing anything. Please take care of yourself. You two seem to have really enjoyed your trip. I have a question about your message. What's a "scissor arch". If you don't mind, can you explain it in detail? Ann Sat May 14 at 9.29 Dear Ann. I'm sorry thatIdidn't answer your question at once. AfterIgot back, I have been suffering from jet lag. I haven't done anything else. From when I saw some photos of Bath in our English school, Iwanted to go there some day. Fortunately Kiki told me to go there. Sarah took us to Wells. We spent a wonderful time. Kiki found out of it on internet. Wells Cathedral was very beautiful. Especially the scissor arches in the Cathedral were magnificent. I have never seen them. Through this trip I admired Kiki again. She is not only an English wizard but also a computer one. Cherry Thu May 12 at 17.21 Thank you for answering my questions, Kiki. Your messages made me exciting. It seems you went to a lot of places for a short term. It was good that you had a lot of opportunities to speak English, wasn't it? You must have had some interesting experiences. If you remember something, please tell me again. Ann Wed May 11 at 17.35 I'm sorry Ann, I forgot to tell you about transport that we took. We got on the coach, buses, trains and undegrounds. And Barbara took us to some places by her car. Ann Wed May 4 at 9.06 Today I went to the National Museum of Western Art in Ueno to see 'Georges de La Tour's Exhibition'. I bought the ticket a few month ago. I was looking forward to seeing it. Although his paintings were not so many, he became a famous artest. His works were very dark painting. He made a shading from the light of candles in the pictures. It made a deep atmosphere. I'm interested in his way. Apricot Mon May 2 at 22.13 I'm wondering where Simon and Michiko are traveling now. I'm looking forward to seeing his photos from there. And also Kiki and Cherry are having a nice holiday in England. I'm looking forward to hearing about their holiday. I went to Tochigi prefecture to see my sister on thursday. Kiki Thu Apr 7 at 23.59 Last Thursday I went to Taimeiken with some friends. We had lunch and saw lots of Kites there. There was a long queue in front of the restaurant. The restaurant on the first floor was cheaper than on the second floor, so it was very crowded. It seemed as if we had lunch in a stuff canteen. But we had a very nice time. Cherry Sat Apr 2 at 11.32 Yesterday I went to the Big Camera to ask them how to take photos with a manual way. There are a few people in the shop where I bought the SLR camera. Apricot Wed Mar 16 at 18.17 Last Saturday I watched the 77th Academy awards digest version on TV. I enjoyed it very much. Everyone who got an Oscar made a wonderful speech. But the most impressed one was Jamie Foxx's. He is an African American and in a film called Ray. He thanked to Martin Luther King, Sidney Portier as they gave him a hope and also his family especially his grandmother. Every speaker except a man thanked the people who worked with and their family. The man got an Oscar as a theme song of the film " Motor cycle Diaries" he just sung one phrase of the song instead of speech. It was nice. Kiki Tue Mar 15 at 22.17 The film you saw sounds wonderful, Apricot. After I read your message I saw the trailer on the Net. Before I saw it I thought the dialogue must be Italian. But I was wrong it's English. I’d like to see it. Kiki Mon Mar 14 at 23.11 It's my pleasur Chary. I'm happy you like them. I saw a film called 'Between Strangers' at the Chante cine today. Apricot Sat Feb 19 at 15.11 I went to the Nichigeki to see 'The Phantom of the Opera. Kiki, as you said I could see it with the great sounds. The music was wonderful. Especially a lead actress Emmy Rossum sung songs excellently. She used to sing at the Metolopolitan Opera. The other day I saw her in the some interview on TV. There were a lot of their photos in the Gallary. But I didn't understand how nice photos they were. Apricot Sat Feb 12 at 22.34 Thank you for your suggestion, Kiki. I love to go a big cinema but she is very busy. While her mother goes to an old person's home from 9 a.m to 4 p.m, she is free. So we haven't enough time to go far from her house. She has been looking after her mother for a long time. Her mother is getting more and more senile. Sometimes her mother tells her "What's your name?" I know well her position. Cherry Sat Feb 12 at 14.16 Oh, I'm sorry to hear that Cherry. Did you blame her? But look on the bright side. I recommend you to see it in a big cinema like the Nichigeki in Yurakucho. I think sound is better than small ones. Kiki Fri Feb 11 at 18.54 Yesterday I went to see a film called "the Phantom of the Opera" with one of my friends. But I'm afraid we couldn't see it. Do you think what happened? When she came to Ikebukuro, she had changed her handbag for another one. Then she had left our tickets in house. We are going to see it in next Saturday. Cherry Fri Feb 11 at 12.04 This morning I went to the Takinogawa library to pick up the book I reserved. When I went there, there were several fire engines and an ambulance in front of the hall. And there were also a lot of fire fighters. I wondered what happened and thought it might be a fire drill. But I was wrong. A librarian told me that there was a small fire somewhere in the hall and we were told to go out from the building. That is why I couldn't get the book. Two hours later I went there again and I've got the book called Che Guevara. Kiki Wed Feb 9 at 22.29 Are you going to the cinema? Cherry. I have the musical's CD. If you like I'll lend you. I bought the DVD "Orlando" recently and watched it last night. I enjoyed it very much. It's based on a novel by Virginia Woolf. There's the making story in it. It was very interesting. I learned how hard making films are. Kiki Mon Feb 7 at 0.03 I'm going to see it on Thursday, Kiki. I haven't seen it either the musical or the cinema yet. Kiki Thu Feb 3 at 23.05 I read a romantic obituary today. An old couple died the same day. Both of them had been in hospital since last month. But they were in different hospital though. Their funeral is going to hold together. It's wonderful, isn't it? I think they must have loved each other deeply. I'm jealous of them. Kiki Wed Feb 2 at 22.00 Today I met a friend of mine who's been to Spain. She gave me some olive oil I had asked her to buy it in Spain.I was very glad. We had lunch at the restaurant called Tootenkou in Ueno. It's famous for Chinese food. It was a buffet. It was nice and cheap. we enjoyed it very much. We've had enough. Apricot Sun Jan 23 at 21.13 What a shame that I missed your exhibition. I look forward to seeing a next exhibition. Please tell me before that, Aprikot. I got e-mail from an English friend. She told me about a film called Ladies in Lavender. I didn't know it even the title. I checked it on the Net and learned that it will be released sometime in this year. In Japan usually foreign films are released after long time it was made. The film seems to be good. Maggie Smith and Judi Denck are in it. I want to see it. Kiki Tue Jan 18 at 23.30 I went to Ginza to take my flowers from our exhibition today.Kiki and Cherry thanks for thinking about me. Our group has it evry January at the Matuzakaya. I didn't expect to win any prize. Because I couldn't exhibit any flowers what I wanted. They didn't flower on time. Then I exhibited a small one.Even so I've got a small prize. I was lucky.I'm sorry I saw your messages tonight. Apricot Tue Jan 18 at 22.31 I'm sorry to hear that you have a pain in your knees, Apricot. Whereabouts in Ginza is the exhibition? And when does it end? If I have a chance I'd like to see it. Kiki Sun Jan 16 at 23.13 Congratulations, Apricot. I'm very pleased to know your news. I just have a bit knowledge about orchids though. However I couldn't go there due to being hurt of my knee. I'm going to take it back the last day. Apricot Sun Jan 16 at 14.23 How surprised you were, Ann! When I went abroad, I had never had targets for pickpockets. Did you go up to the top of Sagrada Familia? I went there with my daughter. There were about four hundred stairs. It looked like seashells near the top of the stairs. Cherry Sat Jan 15 at 22.05 We also stopped at Mijas, Cherry. It was a pretty town. At the end of our trip we were supposed to act for ourselves. In Barcelona my husband and I went to a museum by underground. On the way back my husband came across a pickpocket in the train. He realized her hand in his pocket. He graspped it immediately. Fortunately he had nothing in his pocket. My heart beat fast. We heard that the underground is dangerous. I thought that was right. Anyway we were relieved that we had no injury and loss. Ann Sat Jan 15 at 13.53 Thanks Ann. I went to the same place as you. But I went to Sevillia, Cordoba and Mijas more. Mijas was a small town. There were a lot of white houses. They were hanging flowerpots. I like this town. You remind me of my trip. Cherry Fri Jan 14 at 22.01 Thank you for your concern, Kiki and Cherry. And we bought some olive oil for eating in Spain, Apricot. This time we joined a package tour. We went to Madrid, Toledo, Granada, Costa del Sol and Barcelona. I enjoyed a lot of paintings in some famous museums. We also went to the Alhambra, Cherry. It was very beautiful. And we went to the Sagrada Familia like a site of construction. It was very big. What impressed me most was that many streets were illuminated for Christmas. Those illuminations were designed variously. They made me happy. Ann Tue Jan 11 at 22.51 A friend of mine has gone to Spain. She will be back tomorrow.I asked her to buy some olive oil for a body. I bought it in there five years ago. It was good for my skins. I'm looking forward to seeing her. Apricot Tue Jan 11 at 11.04 Welcome, Ann. We hadn't got any message in both shiritori and chat from you for a couple weeks. So I wondered what happened to you. You had a wonderful time with your husband. Whereabouts in Spain did you go? I went to Alhambra palace eight years ago. It was beautiful. Please tell me more details for Spain. Cherry Mon Jan 10 at 23.23 Dear Ann. I'm very glad to read your message. To tell you the truth I was worried about you. Whereabouts in Spain did you go? What was the best thing in your trip? Tell us more about it. Kiki Mon Jan 10 at 23.10 Happy New Year, too. It's been a long time. Actually my husband and I went to Spain at the end of last year. After coming home, I'd been haveing jet lag. And I'd been busy on New Year's days. Recently I've got back to common daily life. I'd like to study English little by little again. Ann Sun Jan 9 at 9.45 Happy New Year everybody! How was your holiday? Yesterday I saw a film called Man on Fire. It was very exciting. Denzel Washington and Dakota Faning are in it.They acted very well. The story was based on a novel by A.J Quinnel. Kiki Wed Jan 5 at 23.08 I wrote a wonderful gadget on the last Tuesday. But I'm afraid I didn't write the most important function. It can charge a battery for a mobile phone without any socket. We only wind the handle crank to charge it up. So there isn't any electric charge. Cherry Sat Dec 25 at 17.37 I'm afraid I didn't do them, Kiki. But I would love to keep Japanese traditions. Cherry Fri Dec 24 at 22.04 Sorry! I made a mistake. I intended to send my last messege to the Shiritori board. Kiki Thu Dec 23 at 14.35 Now I understood what you said. Kiki Thu Dec 23 at 14.26 She's been learning the piano for about 4 years Cherry. Actually she doesn't like practice it. Today is the winter solstice so I ate some pumpkins. And when I took bath, I put some yuzu in the bathtub. Did someone do the same thing? Those are Japanese tradition. Kiki Tue Dec 21 at 23.41 You had some nice times with your friends and family, Kiki. How many years has she studied the piano? By the way, I saw a great equipment last English class. This is used for emergencies. It has three gadgets. There are an alarm, a torch and a radio. I think a person who made it is very clever. Cherry Mon Dec 20 at 16.26 Today I went to my granddaughters' piano concert. The twelve children who study the same piano class played. All of them played quite well. I enjoyed listening to them. At the end they sung Silent Night. Kiki Sun Dec 19 at 23.52 I went to a Cambodian restaurant called Angkor Wat with some friends tonight. It was in Yoyogi. It was my first time to eat Cambodian food. I thought they were similar to Vietnamese. Afterwards we went to Shinjyuku on foot. We had some coffee in the Odakyu Century Southern hotel. There were a lot of beautiful Christmas decorations around there. A friend said they are much more beautiful than Marunouti's. Kiki Sun Dec 19 at 0.27 We had hardly heard some information from the Akabane station office when we got at the station. There was some accident in the Saikyo line. The train didn't work. So we had to change the Saikyo line into other lines. I think that we have had a lot of trouble in the Saikyo line recently. Cherry Sat Dec 4 at 15.07 I'm jealous, Ann. I ate them long ago. But I only remember that they were expensive. There is a lot of delicious seafood in winter. So I like winter. I would like to eat Shanghai crabs again. Cherry Mon Nov 29 at 21.32 I also saw the moon last night. Cherry The sky was beautiful. Yesterday my husband and I had dinner at a Chinese restaurant in Nishiogikubo with a friend of mine and her husband. She asked us to eat 'Shanhai crabs' there. It seems they are in season. I had them for the first time. I think they are a kind of delicacy like a sea urchin. We enjoyed eating and talking. Ann Sun Nov 28 at 10.07 Today I saw a full moon. It was very bright. I've seen it for a long time. Who else saw it? Cherry Sat Nov 27 at 23.42 Last night I went to a volunteer work. I helped to send news and some leaflets to the members of the anti war group.I met some interesting people there. Do you know that the women who are standing at Shinjyuku station every Saturday night for anti war campaign. I worked with some of them. I heard that it has passed about two years since they started their action. It was amazing. Kiki Sat Nov 27 at 21.52 I went to Ginza on Labor Thanksgiving day and also saw some big beautiful Christmas trees then, Kiki. But to my surprise, there were a lot of bland shops in the main street. The guards in the shop stood up in front of the entrance. And some building nearby put up the national flags. I've never seen such scenes before. Cherry Sat Nov 27 at 0.33 Last night on the way home I saw a big beautiful Christmas tree in the Saigakuen's garden. The big tree in the garden is decorated with colorful lights every year. I'm not a Christian but when I see it I feel happy. It relieved my tiring. Kiki Fri Nov 26 at 14.09 Dear Ann, I also read the article that you mentioned. I agree with you. Kite photos are interesting. Mr. Murooka looked very happy in the photo. I met him once at Michiko's baking class. We made scone on that day. Kiki Tue Nov 16 at 23.36 Your grand daughter must have been lovely. Cherry I remembered my children's childhood. Yesterday I found an article about Kite Photo in Asahi Shinbun. Mr. Murooka was featured in it. I was surprised that he had used kite photos for various purposes. Trying to make a land mine map in Cambodia interested me. Ann Mon Nov 15 at 16.00 My grand daughter is three years old, so that she had Shichi-go-san last Sunday. She wore a Japanese kimono at that time. In order to make a tuck in her kimono I went to my daughter's house last week. I'm poor at sewing thought. I had done well. She is very pretty. Cherry Mon Nov 15 at 14.36 I've finished two English books recently. One was called Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and the other was The Canterbury Tales. Both of them were retold so I read them easily. I don't like scary story so I hesitated to read first one. But after I read it I felt it was't only a horror but also it has some deep meanings. I enjoyed second one there were seven short stories in it. Each story has a message about life or new idea like Aesop’s Fables. Kiki Sun Nov 14 at 11.47 It seems that you are having nice time at the chorus. ,Ann. How many people are there in it? People say laughing and singing are good for our health. Unfortunately I'm a kind of tone deaf. I wish I could sing. Kiki Sun Nov 14 at 11.05 Recently I've enjoyed singing. I joined a chorus in Toshima ward this summer. We mainly sing Japanese children's songs called 'Doyo' in Japanese. In fact the teacher and the pianist of the chorus are friends of mine. They are a married couple. His lessons are very exciting. Recently I took some other friends of mine to see the lessons. They liked him right away and joined it. I found that many friends of mine liked singing unexpectedly. Especially they seem to like Japanese children's songs. Ann Sat Nov 13 at 9.53 Last night I went to Aoto to listen to a concert. It was an amateur orchestra. They played two symphonies, Shostakovich's number 9 and Tchakovsky's number 5 eagerly. The first one was better than the second one. It was my first time to go to Aoto. I didn't know that there was such a wonderful hall there. Kiki Sun Nov 7 at 11.51 Aftershocks are still continuing in Niigata. The victims must be scary. But as far as I know they are very patient. The disaster is terrible. But I'm glad to hear that a lot of people are going there for volunteer work. I can't do anything for them so I sent a little money to the Red Cross. I also hope their lives will be back to normal soon, Cherry. KIKI Thu Nov 4 at 0.42 It's 9 days since the big earthquake happened in Niigata, Kiki. Fortunately, I haven't any friend in this area. I hope the victims in there will recover their daily life early. Cherry Mon Nov 1 at 16.23 Tonight when I was cooking, there was a big earthquake. I was very surprised. How's everyone? I turned off the stove immediately and watched TV. According to the news the epicenter was in Nigata prefecture 4 people died and a lot of people injured so far. This year 10 typhoons hit to Japan and caused big damage here and there. I'm afraid of what'd happening next. KIKI Sat Oct 23 at 23.40 The day before yesterday I saw a scene. An old woman had a baggage with her handcart. She went up the stairs at Ikebukuro station. It was hard work for her. A young man said "May I take it at the top of the stairs?" She said politely "Thank you. But I take it by myself." There are a lot of unexpected incidents recently. It's so sad that we can't believe others. Cherry Thu Oct 21 at 11.19 Dear Kiki I also read some articles about the international conference. Recentry some people with Alzheimer's disease have started talking about themselves. I think that is a surprising and great thing. I never thought that could be possible. This disease tends to be regarded as a desperate one. But understanding it and patients' feelings could lead to help them live like ordinary people. I think the problem in Japan is that there aren't enough systems to support them and their families yet. Ann Tue Oct 19 at 19.21 There's an international meeting for the people who have Alzheimer's disease in Kyoto now. Today I heard a speech that one of the patients did there on TV news. I was deeply moved by that. I also read some interesting articles about English patient and Australian's. Ann, I've heard you are still helping senile people so I think you are also interested in it, aren't you? Kiki Mon Oct 18 at 0.43 I'm still reading the book "Tuesday with Morrie" There are a lot of words that I don't know in it. I have to look them up in a dictionary. Actually I had to return it today so I went to the library and reborrowed it. I can take two more weeks. I love the book. thanks to the film I can imagen the story. Kiki Sat Oct 9 at 23.56 That's good for you, Kiki. It seems that it wasn't easy to get the book. I usually go to the Akabane library. There are a lot of foreign books. I used to borrow English picture books and enjoy them with my children. These days I try to look for interesting-looking English books that aren't too difficult for me. 'Tuesdays with Morrie' is one of them. Ann Sun Sep 26 at 10.28 Dear Ann. Finally I borrowed the book that you mentioned from the library. Last Sunday I went to the library near my house and looked for it. But it wasn't there it was in the Central library. I've got Internet password for the Kita ward library. Then I reserved it. This morning I got a notice by e-mail from them. I went to the library again and pick it up. I've started reading it. Kiki Sat Sep 25 at 22.18 Dear Cherry and Kiki I'm glad that you know the film very well. As Cherry said, I've also given up reading English books. But the contents of the book interested me from the beginning. It's not as dramatic as the film. The author wrote it cool like keeping a diary. That rather impressed me. Ann Mon Sep 20 at 9.49 You are so great, Ann and Kiki. I've given up to read it in English though. I also saw it on TV several years ago. It was very impressive on me. One of my friends recommended reading it. So I read it in Japanese at that time. I couldn't read it without shedding tears. Cherry Sun Sep 19 at 22.37 I've seen the film on TV too, Ann but I didn't know that it was based on the novel. I've heard it was the last film of Jack Lemmon. I'd like to read it in English so I'll go to a library to look for it. Are you sure it's easy to read? Kiki Sun Sep 19 at 11.32 You are right, Kiki. By the way yesterday I saw a film called 'Tuesdays with Morrie' with Jack Lemmon on TV. I once read the original in English. I found the book in the library. I liked some sentences at the beginning of it. It was easy to read. It seems that it has been a bestseller in the U.S.. It's about the last lessons that an old professor with a fatal disease called ALS had been giving to his old student until he died. The film was good. But I prefer the book. Ann Wed Sep 15 at 14.56 It sounds like that you had a very good time in Karuizawa, Ann. It is good to see children's growing but on the other hand it means that parents are getting old. Don't you think so? By the way I saw an old film called Sense and Sensibility on TV today. It was based on a book by Jane Austin. It was wonderful especially scenery of England was. Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet were in it. Kiki Sat Sep 11 at 21.37 The other day I went to Karuizawa with my husband and son. Then we played tennis. I found my son's tennis improving. It seems like his strength has increased. On the other hand my husband and I have felt lack of exercise and less stamina. Recently he's started to go swimming. I think it's good for him. Ann Sat Sep 11 at 11.56 I bought a CD at a concert-hall last week. It was Mozalt's Symphony No.40 and No.41"Jupiter" conducted by Ricccardo Muti,a concert by the Vienna Philhamonic Orchestra. What a nice music it is! At the concert I saw Muti. His conduct was not only elegant but also passionate. I'd like to be his fan. Aplicot Thu Sep 9 at 9.23 Yesterday I went to a meeting at the public health center. People who have a family member with Alzheimer's disease meet there once a month. Father-in-law who died last year had suffered from the disease for a long time. So I have been going there for about seven years. I could get a lot of information about the disease. The best thing was to meet a lot of people and listen to their stories. Since I like the meeting, I keep on going even after he died. Ann Tue Sep 7 at 21.31 I haven't seen the film yet. My second daughter, who you know, did. She said that it was very good. My oldest daughter can't afford to do it because she has been busy practicing dance for a stage. Besides she works part-time. I think she's really hardworking. Anyway she's still young. Ann Sat Sep 4 at 17.14 I'm worried about the weather too, Cherry. I really want to see the blue moon because people say that if we see it we'll have something lucky. By the way I saw a film " The Company" the other day. It was about a ballet company. It was made like a documentary. There were a lot of beautiful ballet scenes. Have you seen it, Ann? I think your daughter must be interested in it. Kiki Mon Aug 30 at 10.31 I took part in a workshop at Shimizu English school during this summer. We read a part of the latest Harry Potter in English. It was too difficult for me. Simon recorded it on tape and gave it to us. Michiko made both "Vocabulary Guide" and "Name Guide" for us. She gave us some advice how to read it. One of my friends lent some Harry Potter’s books in Japanese. They were very useful for me. I could not get "Harry Potter" out of my mind till it finish. Now I'm relieved. Cherry Sun Aug 29 at 23.21 Typhoon No.16 is approaching West Japan, Kiki. It's raining in Tokyo. I'm disappointed that we are not able to see the blue moon. Cherry Sun Aug 29 at 15.56 Dear Kiki I didn't know about a blue moon. Your story was interesing. As you said, it's getting cooler. This summer heat have made me lazy. I've really been impatient for autumn. My mother tends to suffer from the summer heat. From the beginning of the summer she had been ill because her blood pressure had kept high. Recently she's got better. I'm relieved now. Ann Sat Aug 28 at 14.01 Hi! Every one, How are you? It's getting cooler day by day. I hear that on August 30th there is a second full moon in this month. Having full moon twice in a month is rare. The second full moon is called blue moon in English. If my memory is correct the word " Once in a blue moon" comes from that. I look forward to seeing it. Kiki Sat Aug 28 at 0.08 Yesterday I saw a film called Elvis: That's the way it is special edition. The Japanese title is Elvis on Stage. It was very exiting. Most of the scenes were his concert at the hotel in Las Vegas. There were full of old familiar songs. This year is the 50th anniversary of his first song. My younger sister in law and her son liked the film very much and they saw it three times. Kiki Tue Aug 10 at 15.02 I'm sorry! I made a mistake. I intended to send the massage to the Shiritori board. Kiki Thu Jul 29 at 19.04 In Chiba prefecture there are some of my friends. Kiki Thu Jul 29 at 18.56 Yes Cherry,It was expensive. But it was not more expensive than befor. Also it has 20% service points, then I could buy the recorder with them. Becides the shop gave me ¥20.000 for taking back my old TV.It was lucky. So it was cheaper than you thought. How long I could enjoy it ! Apricot Thu Jul 29 at 18.29 I'm jealous, Apricot. High vision televisions are still very expensive. There is a television in home. It's been 17 years since we bought it. But it works well. Please enjoy watching on HVTV during Olympic games. Cherry Wed Jul 28 at 16.39 Yesterday I watched a film called The Road Home on video. It was a Chinese one. The Japanese title is Hatsukoi no kitamichi. I missed it while it was at cinema. Everyone who has seen it recommended it so I wanted to see it for a long time. It was wonderful. The scenes were beautiful and the story as well. Some times I cried. I think the Japanese title is more romantic than original one. Kiki Wed Jul 28 at 11.31 I've got a highvision TV called AQUOS recently. It has clean and wide screen. I want to see Olimpic Games on it. Also I've got a HDD.DVD.VIDEO recorder. It must be hard work for me to use it. Apricot Mon Jul 26 at 20.04 I'm sorry. I was wrong. The lottery ticket someone sent is two hundred million yen. What a generous person! Kiki Mon Jul 26 at 11.06 It was good that you had the new mouse, Ann. You are lucky to have kind husband. By the way there's wonderful news in today's paper. Someone sent one hundred million wining lottery ticket to the Fukui prefectural office anonymously. It's for the terrible disaster of the flood. The news moved me a lot. I wondered if I won a lottery I can do that. Kiki Sun Jul 25 at 19.00 A few days ago something was wrong with the mouse of the computer. Yesterday my husband and I went to Bic Camera in Ginza to buy a mouse. I was surprised that there were various kinds of mouses about design and functions. Anyway it's good that we can use the computer smoothly. Ann Sun Jul 25 at 16.45 Thank you for asking, Cherry. But I'm afraid I have other plans. By the way today I bought an English picture book called "MADELINE". It's about twelve little girls and Sister Clavel who lived in an old house in Paris. At first I think the original is written in French. But it's wrong. My daughters and I love "MADELINE". It's a funny story. I think there is a Japanese version in Akabane library. Ann Fri Jul 16 at 16.30 Thank you for sending the recipe for old-fashioned gingernuts, Simon. I like ginger biscuits. Sometimes I buy them at Kaldi in Akabane. By the way, Ann, if you have free time on the Saturday of 17th, please join us. Cherry Thu Jul 15 at 22.56 You must be concerned about your dog, Cherry. An air conditioner is essential to it. Thinking of the temprature of 22 degrees, you have to leave the air conditioners on all day in the summer. But it can't be helped for your pet. We just have some goldfish. Ann Thu Jul 15 at 17.07 I quite agree with Ann. But our dog has heart disease. It takes some medicine twice a day. The vet said that if the temperature is over 22, you should put the air con on. So I have to keep it wherever the dog stays. Cherry Thu Jul 15 at 11.01 We've had scorching hot days. I feel like escaping from the heat. I think recent summers in Japan have been getting hotter than before. So we need air conditioners. But I don't like them much. I hope I can spend this summer without turning them on many times. Ann Wed Jul 14 at 19.10 There's English crosswords puzzle in the paper. I tried it. It was quite difficult so I had to use some dictionaries. And it took me for a long time. But it was fun. When I completed it I was very happy. Kiki Sat Jul 10 at 22.53 As I will be busy on next Sunday, I went to vote for the Upper house election with my husband. It was the first time that we had voted before elections. Cherry Thu Jul 8 at 17.35 Last night I watched Wimbledon women's final on TV. It was very exiting. The 17- year-old Russian Maria Sharapova won. Serena Williams lost the match but when she blessed her opponent she looked happy. I think she did her best. Kiki Sun Jul 4 at 15.32 Thank you very much for your kind information, Ann. Now I understood what film were you talking about. I think I saw the trailer of that at a cinema. I saw a sate about that on the Net. If I had a time I'll go to the cinema to see it. Kiki Sat Jun 26 at 21.17 I'm writing about the film in detail. The film is showing from July 10 to July 16 as an ordinary road show in Ebisu Garden Cinema. On or after July 17 the show time is limited 9:00a.m. - 10:20a.m.and 9:35p.m. - 10:55p.m.. They say 'Morning & Late show'. The phone number of Ebisu Garden Cinema is 03(5420)6161. Ann Sat Jun 26 at 12.51 I'm sorry to forget writing the title of the film, Kiki. It is "The child who wanted to be a polar bear". Last year it was awarded a prise in Berlin film festival. I think it's a beautiful film. By the way in Paris I just spoke broken French for travel. I studied French a bit when I was young. Then I often tried to study it on the radio. But I couldn't keep studying for long time. Ann Sat Jun 26 at 11.49 What is the title of the film, Ann? Is it going to show to the public? It sounds interesting. By the way I also saw a film called The Barbarian Invasion. It was Canadian. Japanese title was Goodbye everyone. It was completely different from the original one. The story was very interesting. It got an Oscar as the best foreign language film. Unfortunately most of the lines were French. You told us that you spoke French in Paris. It was great. Have you studied it? Kiki Thu Jun 24 at 23.18 Yesterday I went to see a preview of an animated film with my husband. Actually the publishing company he works for is going to bring out the original picture book of the film in July. The film was a joint work by France and Denmark. The story seems to be based on Inuit legend. It's about parental affection and children's independence. It's simple but very impressive. The background music is also wonderful. We had a good time. Ann Thu Jun 24 at 20.12 Thank you for your interesting message, Ann. The other day I went to the Tokyo metropolitan museum. There was an exhibition of Flemish and Dutch Paintings. There were 58 paintings so after I saw them I was exhausted. On the way home I listen to a street performer's music. He was an American and he was playing unique doll shaped musical instrument. The sound was very beautiful. In Japan there are a few street performers. I think they can't play every where in Japan. I've heard the Tokyo governor gave some people permission to perform in certain places. Maybe you can see them on Saturday or Sunday in Ueno Park. Kiki Mon Jun 21 at 22.07 T'm writing about Paris again. When we took the Metro, we came across a lot of strolling musicians. Some played a musical instrument, the others sang in the train. At first we were very surprised. But it seems to be common in Paris. I like music and art. So I like places where art is close to people. Ann Mon Jun 21 at 10.03 We didn't have any messages from you for about a month, Ann. I wondered what had happened. But I knew that you had been to France and had enjoyed a nice time with your husband. It's great. Now I look after both my daughter and her baby, I'm as busy as a bee. They will be back home next month. I would like to enjoy chatting and Shiritori again. Cherry Thu Jun 17 at 11.15 I'm afraid I don't know about the venus, Kiki. And we went to Paris by ourselves. In fact this was my first visit to Europe. I had been a little concerned about security and language. But we spoke broken French and English. We enjoyed Paris. Ann Mon Jun 14 at 18.36 Wow! It sounds like you had a wonderful time in Paris, Ann. I've never been there. Did you go there by yourself or on a tour? By the way there was a big event on space last Tuesday. The venous was seen on the sun as a black spot. I missed it. I don't know whether we could see it in Tokyo or not. But I saw it on TV. Did anyone see it? Kiki Mon Jun 14 at 10.45 Congratulations on the birth of your grandchild, Cherry. You must be busy looking after your daughter and her baby. By the way recently I went to Paris with my husband. We stayed seven nights there. Paris was very interesting. We took the Metro a lot to go around. My husband was interested in French food and landmarks. I'd rather see people and their lifestyle. We went to morning markets and supermarkets. Seeing part of French daily life was very interesting. Ann Sun Jun 13 at 20.43 Thanks Kiki. Yes,I'm. I'm very pleased at looking after our grand child. She is very pretty. I'm enjoying my life. Cherry Fri Jun 11 at 22.05 Congratulations on the new baby, Cherry. You must be busy for looking after the baby and your daughter. But you are very happy with them, aren't you? Kiki Wed Jun 9 at 11.41 My elder daughter's baby was due on the 4th of June though the baby arrived on the 2nd of June. So it's the next day of your grand daughter's birthday, Kiki. She had an easy delivery. I was relieved. Cherry Fri Jun 4 at 12.26 I saw a film called Troy on Monday. It was an epic one. Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, and Orlando Bloom were in it. The story was about a war between ancient Greek and Troy. It was filmed in the outskirts of London, Malta, and Mexico. It was wonderful. I enjoyed it very much. Kiki Thu Jun 3 at 23.28 Today I went to my daughter's to say happy birthday to my second grand daughter. Actually her birthday is on June first. But it is on Tuesday so I can't go there. Then I went today. I bought a cake for her and gave some money to buy a toy what she wants to. We had lunch together and had the cake. I had very good time with them. She will be 6. I felt time flies. Kiki Sun May 30 at 21.26 On the Tuesday it was light rain. I wondered whether it was held in the Asukayama Park or in Hokutopiya, Kiki. But you had a nice time. I’ve never seen Takigi Noh. I would like to see it some day. Cherry Fri May 21 at 12.04 On Tuesday night I went to see Takigi Noh with a friend of mine. It was in the Hokutopia. Takigi Noh is an open-air stage play so it wasn't a real one. It was supposed to be in the Asukayama Park. Because of the rain it was held there. We were a bit disappointed. I was looking forward to seeing it nice atmosphere outside. Any way the play was wonderful. I enjoyed it very much. Kiki Thu May 20 at 18.30 I was impressed by your message, Cherry. Your husband is very kind. The little sparrow and the parent(?) must be very happy. Kiki Thu May 20 at 18.19 Several days ago, it was raining. There was a little sparrow in the garden. It couldn't fly. My husband brought it at home and put it into a carton. He gave some water and rice to it. It was chirping a few hours later. At that time, another sparrow lighted on the electrical wire near our house. It was chirping like as calling for its child. Next day, it was fine. The sparrow was chirping again on the wire. So he set it free. They were flying in the sky. Cherry Wed May 19 at 10.31 Yes Kiki, It was happy to see it in Holland. But I saw it when it came to Japan. But at that time there were a lot of people in front of it in the museum , then I didn't see it very well. This time there weren't so many peoples in the museum. So I could see it plenty of time, besides I could take a picture of it. I'm not into a painting, but I like to see good paintings. Apricot Fri May 14 at 20.59 It's sound like you had a very good time on your holiday, Apricot. You were lucky to see the original picture “Girl with a pearl earring”. The other day I also saw the film at the same cinema where you went. The cinema is a bit small but the location of it is convenient for me. I can go there on the way to work. Kiki Wed May 12 at 10.52 I enjoyed my holiday in Holland and Belgium last month. Also I saw a movie called ’Girl with a pearl earring' at the Cine Libre Ikebukuro yesterday.I saw a picture of it painted by Vermeer at the Mauritshuis museum in Holland. Even the story wasn't true I was impressed. Apricot Tue May 11 at 10.30 I'm really glad to see you and your children at the Bake in English class, Ann. Your children are wonderful. Yes, your son was very helpful for us. I also enjoyed beautiful garden and making the Chelsea Buns. They were very good. I like Chelsea Buns better than Scones. Kiki Mon May 10 at 10.04 Yesterday I went to the Bake in English class with my daughter and son. Michiko's garden was so beautiful. We made Chelsea Buns. It was nice that my son was able to help us. Actually he likes cooking. Simon talked about philosophy and part of his life. It was very interesting. There was something difficult to understand, though. I was glad to see some people. We had a very good time. Ann Mon May 10 at 9.14 Dear Simon Thank you for sending me the resipe of Chelsea Buns. They look good. You went to Ishikawa ken, did't you? I'm looking forward to hearing about a story of your trip tomorrow. Ann Sat May 8 at 14.00 I think May 9th is a good time for roses Ann. I'd love to see them but I haven't decided to join the class yet. By the way I received an annual report about my foster child. I'm glad to hear that he and his family are fine. Kiki Thu Apr 29 at 23.26 Yesterday I went to a piano concert with a friend of mine instead of my daughter. Long years ago, I had listened his playing piano when he had won the first prize in a piano competition in his teens. He played Rakhmaninov in the last program. It was very impressive. Cherry Thu Apr 29 at 21.30 You must look forward to having a new grandchild, Cherry. Please take care of your daughter. By the way I'm going to the Bake in English on the 9 of May. I'm very interested in Michiko's garden. Of course baking cakes, too. And I'm looking forward to seeing some people. Ann Thu Apr 29 at 10.12 Our elder daughter is expecting. Her due day is on the 4th of June. Her doctor said that she is unwell so she needs to rest in bed. She has been staying our home now. Yesterday I made some scorns for her. I put some choc chips in them. They were very delicious. Cherry Tue Apr 27 at 16.35 Dear Cherry and Kiki Last Saturday it seems that you really enjoyed the Bake in English class. I was surprised that there were a lot of people coming there. And Mr. Murooka also came, didn't he? The other day I read the book written by him that Simon lent me. It was very interesting. Simon and Michiko must also have had a very good time. Ann Mon Apr 26 at 18.37 It embarrasses me to get so praise, Kiki. I'm only impatient. I lived with my mother in low for a long time so I notice lots things. By the way, Ann, at last I bought a chopping board that you had brought at the last cook in English. I took it last Saturday. It's useful for chopping and rolling. Cherry Mon Apr 26 at 17.15 Yesterday I couldn't write enough about the class so I'll tell you again. My friend Cherry also came so there were 9 people included Michiko and Simon. Cherry is always high-powered worker. She helped us eagerly. Michiko and Simon showed us their garden. There were a lot of flowers there. Unfortunately it wasn't a good time to roses. The only one kind of roses called Spanish Beauty has flowered. They were very beautiful. I think Michiko has green fingers. Kiki Sun Apr 25 at 9.22 Today I went to the Bake in English class. I met some new interesting people there. One of them was a famous kite photographer called Murooka. And the others were a his classmate and a couple who are undertakers. We baked some scones. It was easier than I thought. The scones were very good. After we baked them we talked about a lot of things over a cup of tea. We had very good time. Kiki Sat Apr 24 at 22.57 Thank you for asking me, Kiki. But I'm afraid I have something to do tomorrow. Anyway Now is the good season for going outside. Our family used to play tennis. But recently we haven't done it. We plan to do it again. My husband feels lack of exercise. Ann Fri Apr 23 at 13.01 I'm sorry I made a stupid mistake again. When I rewrote the sentense I forgot to erase the word " you".I should have checked it before I sent. Kiki Thu Apr 22 at 17.54 I'm sorry for my late reply, Ann. You must have had a wonderful time with your daughters. I haven't seen a ballet for ages. I think, last time I saw a ballet was over ten years ago. I'd like to see your daughter's dance someday. By the way, I'm you going to Michiko's Bake inEnglish on Saturday. How about you? Kiki Thu Apr 22 at 17.45 I agree with you, Kiki. Yesterday I went to see a ballet called Nutcracker with my daughters and some relatives. It was modernly created on the basis of classical Nutcracker. It was not so formal, but like an entertainment show. I enjoyed it. In fact my eldest daughter wants to be a pro dancer. So it seemed very interesting for her. Ann Fri Apr 16 at 10.10 Terrible incidents have happened in Iraq recently. Some Japanese were kidnapped. But according to the news three of them were released tonight. I'm pleased to hear that. I hope rest of them will be released soon. Kiki Thu Apr 15 at 23.57 Dear Kiki You really know much about films. I also like ones. But recently I haven't seen so many ones. What you wrote about seems interesting. I prefer humorous ones. I saw a film called Little Dancer on video before. I liked it. Ann Wed Apr 14 at 9.39 Dear Ann you seem to have had a wonderful time with your husband. By the way, do you like films? The other day I saw a film called Something's Gotta Give. I Don't know what it meant. Japanese title was Renai Tekireiki. It was a kind of love comedy Jack Nicholson, Diane Keaton, and Keanu Reeves were in it. While I was watching it I often laughed. Diane Keaton was wonderful. She nominated the Academy Award as a best leading actress. Unfortunately she couldn’t get it though. Kiki Tue Apr 13 at 22.07 Yesterday I went to Shinjukugyoen with my husband. There are several kinds of cherry blossoms in the park. some have already fallen. The others were still blooming. So this time we can enjoy cherry blossom viewing for some time. Ann Mon Apr 12 at 9.28 Cherry, thank you for warm words.I am tired after the lesson .But I have good time by your favor.I'm getting power from everyone.I think that I will study little by little and it will continue. Jo Wed Apr 7 at 21.20 Hi, Miyuki. I'm surprised that your English is improved in a short time. I've been speaking broken English for a long time. If it was an easy sentence, I still couldn't speak properly. As the proverb goes that bad habits die hard. Cherry Tue Apr 6 at 21.43 Ann, I was also very pleased to meet you. You're good at not only English but also music. Today I made coleslaw without caraway seeds. I didn't find out them in some supermarkets near around my house. Cherry Mon Apr 5 at 23.07 Kiki and Cherry, I was also glad to see you for the first time. Thanks to Simon and Michiko I enjoyed cooking, eating, talking and so on. I'll sometimes send messages to Chat in English from now on. Ann Mon Apr 5 at 9.49 Today I went to Cook in English class. I was very glad to see Ann there. We cooked roast lamb, salad, some boiled vegetables, cranachan, and Easter biscuits. All of them were very good especially Easter biscuits were. But we didn't know exactly when Easter day is. Tonight I telephoned my English friend Barbara and asked it. She said Easter holiday is from April 9th to 12th this year. And on 9th Friday is the most important day. She said Christians don't eat any meat on that day. Kiki Sun Apr 4 at 23.37 Today I went to Shibuya to see an exhibition for Monet, Renoir and some other impressionists. First I met two friends in front of the faithful dog's statue called Hachi. Then we went to the Bunkamura museum. All exhibits were wonderful. The best thing was that it was not crowded. We could see them without hurry. I bought some post cards. Kiki Thu Apr 1 at 17.16 Don't worry, Cherry. I often made spelling mistakes. I think making mistake is a good practice. We are now stadying English. Kiki Thu Apr 1 at 9.40 I'm ashamed that I made a stupid mistake in chat in English. I didn't realize till Simon had sent a message "????" in the word of "seat". I thought that I wrote "sweet". Recently I'm forgetful. Besides I can't catch some classmates's words. Cherry Wed Mar 31 at 14.51 Several days ago my elder daughter came to home. I cooked both "Shepherd's Pie" and "Sticky Toffee Pudding". I used beef instead of lamb. So I think that it's not called "Shepherd's Pie" strictly. As to the pudding, I used some small pudding basins so it didn't take much time to steam. She took some of them to home. My son-in-law said," One is very delicious and the other is too seat." What will I make next time? Cherry Tue Mar 30 at 10.47 Thank you Kiki. I went to see the weeping cherry in Rikugien last Saturday. I asked the officer about when is good. He said to me that most of the weeping cherry is blooming now and they have lights in the evening. I went there in the morning but next year I would go in the evening. Cherry Mon Mar 29 at 10.31 I think the Rikugien's weeping cherry tree is more splendid than the one I saw the other day,Cherry. But the Rikugien's is too famous so there are a lot of people while it's blooming. I hate crowded place. The temple was quiet so I liked there. Usually the weeping cherry blossoms come out earlier than the ordinary ones. If you want to go to Rikugien before you go there you should ask the office that when is good. Kiki Thu Mar 25 at 10.44 What was the weeping cherry in a temple like, Kiki? I remembered that you went to see the weeping cherry in Rikugien last year. Which one do you recommend? On the 1st of April I'm going to go to somewhere to see some cherry blossoms with a friend of mine. Cherry Tue Mar 23 at 23.21 It was lovely day today. I went to one of my nephew's to see a newborn baby with my sister. Afterward we went to a temple near their house to see weeping cherry. It was in full bloom and very beautiful. There were some ordinary cherry trees there. They have just started blooming. I had very good time. Kiki Fri Mar 19 at 23.38 Yesterday I went to the event "Plaza NPO and volunteer" with a friend of mine. It was in Hokutopia. 28 groups participated. First each of them told what they are doing. Afterward famous TV personality called Kinya Aikawa had a talk with a director of the event. I'm very glad to hear that a lot of people concerned about environmental issues. I learned a lot of things there. Kiki Sun Mar 14 at 22.30 Last night I watched the digest of the Academy award ceremony on TV. It was wonderful. The actresses were beautiful in gorgeous dresses. I’m glad to learn that Sophia Coppola got an Oscar for the screenplay. She made the film “Lost in Translation” in Japan. I'm looking forward to seeing it. Kiki Tue Mar 9 at 23.42 I read Kitaku News, Coco. There's information about the event of "Plaza Volunteer NPO". It's on Saturday. Are you going there? Kiki Mon Mar 8 at 9.38 Speaking of the film "Gone with the wind", I have a lot of pleasant memories. I saw it when I was in teens. It was my favorite film. I had seen it four times. Of course I had read the book. Your mail reminded me in my youth, thanks Kiki. I had also read the book called "Scarlet" that continued from the book of "Gone with the wind". But I hadn't had so much impression. Cherry Sun Mar 7 at 20.37 I read a film script of Gone with the wind recently. I had a chance to talk about the film. We saw the DVD with English subtitle some parts of it and talked about it. I remembered that I had the script. Actually it was my husband's. He liked films as well. We were lots in common. I was moved by one of the Ashley's speeches. He said the most of the miseries were caused by wars. I think it is true. Kiki Thu Mar 4 at 17.10 You must be relieved that your dog is getting well, Cherry. The other day I watched a wonderful TV program about a Lake District trekking in England. A woman who is an essayist went with guide. The guide spoke Japanese very well. If I were much younger I would like to try it. Kiki Mon Mar 1 at 0.03 I've been writing a care diary since my dog, Kota, hurt last month. I sometimes had to get up during nights because of its yapping. Now that it sleeps well, I also sleep well. On the eleventh of February it rolled about 20cm and now it walks slowly about 2m60cm by itself. The day before yesterday it had a pee in its toilet. When I saw it with my daughter, we couldn't stop being in tears for joy. Cherry Thu Feb 26 at 16.50 Last Friday I saw flowers in a vase in the afternoon English class. There are six petals, a pistil and some stamens in a flower. Three flowers bloom in a stem. I have never seen such big beautiful red amaryllises. Cherry Tue Feb 17 at 10.54 I'm sorry Cherry, I don't know whether the film is going to released with a Japanese title or not. I think it will be the original one. According to the news it nominated three section of the Academy Award, Best director, Best actor and Best writing. I'm looking forward to seeing it. Kiki Sun Feb 15 at 15.56 What's "Lost in translation" called in Japanese, Kiki? You are really well known about films. By the way I also took the lecture about the cooking in English and English culture on the 31st of January. I gave a report to Michiko. She said that I had misunderstood in some parts. In spite of the Japanese I had made some mistakes. I wonder I had a lot of mistakes in the English class. She kindly said "If you had trouble in studying English, please tell about it at any time." It is important that we have a good communication with each other. If we had some problems about English, let's tell about them to her and we enjoy studying English. Cherry Thu Feb 12 at 14.15 Cherry, it sounds like you had a very good time at the cooking class. By the way last summer I saw a toad in my garden. Maybe it'll come out again. I got an e-mail from my English friend after a long time. She said she saw an interesting film called Lost in Translation. It filmed in Japan. I've heard about it a little. I'd like to see it too. But I don't know when it is going to be released. Usually a foreign film is released two or three months later than the country where it' made. Kiki Thu Feb 12 at 1.05 Last Sunday I went to the cooking English class. But I was the only student so I had to cook four kind of food. It's called "Toad in the hole" though we didn't use any toads. Toads are sleeping in the ground during the winter. Sausages look like toads. I think so that it's called that. Susan who is one of Simon and Michiko's friends came here. I enjoyed lunch with them. Cherry Wed Feb 11 at 16.42 I'm glad to hear that your dog is getting better, Cherry. Today I went to The International Library of Children's Literature in Ueno. I looked for a Spanish book for my foster child. But it was the first time I went there so I didn't know how I could find it. I asked to a receptionist. She helped me kindly and I chose Aesop's Fables. They don't lend any books but we can have copies of some pages of a book. I've got some copies of the book. I'll send them to him soon. Kiki Sat Feb 7 at 23.11 It's about a month since our dog hurt its neck. Its neck support took off last week. It can't walk by itself, but it can sit down for a while. It takes low frequency treatment three times a week. I think that it's getting better day by day. Cherry Thu Feb 5 at 21.14 To night I watched an interesting TV program. It was about unique festival in Peru. It was men's and boy's fighting festival on Christmas day. During the year if men have had trouble with someone, they gave a challenge to fight each opponent. It was like a duel. Boys fought without any reason they just wanted to show their braves. There were some rules for the fighting. Besides before the fights started the organizer said to the fighters, don't get hurt. That was why the fights weren't cruel than I thought. It was like a sport. After the fight they made up and respected each other. I thought it was a good simple way to solve problems. Kiki Sun Feb 1 at 0.21 I'm sorry to hear about your dog Cherry. How is he? I do hope he'll get better soon. Kiki Sun Feb 1 at 0.13 We have had a dog for ten years. It hurt its neck on the 2nd of January. According to the x-ray, the bones of its neck were a little bit moved. So the dog can’t walk. The dog is wearing a plastic bandage on its neck. The dog was in the vet for five days after that I have been looking after. The vet says the dog has to have this on for a month. I hope that the dog gets well and walks by itself. Cherry Sat Jan 24 at 15.54 Yesterday I went to Ikebukuro to see a film called "My life without me". It was a very sad story about a young woman who has got a fatal cancer. When she was told about her illness from a doctor she decided not to tell anybody even her husband about that. Then she made 10 lists that what she would like to do before she dies. Afterwards she did them one by one. While I was watching it I cried all the time. It was a very good film. Kiki Thu Jan 22 at 18.44 What a wonderful thing to listen to the concert live! Apricot. I jealous your cousin. Actually I watched the concert on TV. Unfortunately I missed the beginning parts though. The conductor's speech was great. And as I expected they played Radezky march in the end. Have you seen it? Kiki Mon Jan 19 at 23.58 Yesterday I got a beautiful card with a photo from my cousin. she went to a New Year's concert by Vienna symphony Orchestra in Vienna. She wore Kimono and her husband wore Tuxedo. I've been to a Summer concert by them in Salzburg.A lot of audiences wore wonderful dresses. so I recommended her to wear Kimono. Apricot Mon Jan 19 at 11.55 Cherry Thanks for asking about my IC recorder. It has a lot of functions. I can't use all of them yet. As you said it's small and light so that I can carry easily anywhere. I think it's useful for studying English. Kiki Sun Jan 18 at 23.53 Kiki, how about an IC recorder? All our classmates except me have IC recorders so I'm interesting in it. IC recorders are smaller, smarter and more technical than tape recorders. But I have an old type tape recorder and it still works. Cherry Sun Jan 18 at 12.46 I learned a new English word " mincemeat" tonight. Thanks to the some friend's explanation I could almost understand it. But just in case I looked it up in my dictionary. At first I used my old English Japanese one. It says mincemeat is an ingredient for mince pie, mixed some fruits and minced meat. It's different from what I learned. So I looked it up in an English English dictionary. It says a mixture of some fruits, suet and spices but no meat. I learned some times Japanese dictionary is wrong. Kiki Thu Jan 15 at 23.56 Yesterday I picked up the IC recorder that I ordered from the shop. But I don't know how to use it yet. I have to read the instructions carefully. It's hard for me. But I'll do my best. Kiki Tue Jan 13 at 22.13 The day before yesterday I went to a Bick camera in Ikebukuro to buy IC recorder. I wanted it for a long time but I haven't decided which model I should buy. There are too many types. Finally I found a good one. But unfortunately the shop didn't have any stocks. So I ordered it. They said it took for a week. I look forward to getting it. Kiki Sat Jan 10 at 22.21 Thank you abcChat friends for arranging a very nice lunch today. We enjoyed it very much. Now welcome to ChatInEnglish and Shiritori Enjoy it here and please continue to invite your friends to chat here. Simon and Michiko Wed Jan 7 at 18.07 I got a letter from my foster child so I want to reply. Dear Franklin. Thank you very much for your letter. I'm glad to hear that you've had the electricity at your home. So you can study at night, can't you? It's winter here in Japan. Northern parts of Japan have a lot of snow but here in Tokyo we don't have much snow. You said you are poor but I think you are happy. Because you have nice family and your country is peaceful. Rich people are not always happy. Happiness is in our mind. When I was a child there was the Second World War. After the war most Japanese were poor. On that days we didn't have enough food. But thanks to some countries help we could developed. Please study hard and help your family. I'm looking forward to hearing you. With best wishes. Kiki Sat Jan 3 at 16.57 Hello, Ann, I've heard who you are from Cherry. Before that I thought Ann is Simon or Michiko because when we had difficult last word on the Shiritori board you often saved us. By the way I passed the oral test that I mentioned before. I got the result by e-mail. I was relieved to get it. Kiki Tue Nov 25 at 22.54 Today I went to the cooking class. There were four people in the class. Two of them were new to me. We made three kinds of dishes. We shared the cooking. I made Caramelized Rice Pudiding with Michiko's help. It was the first time I'd made it. But I used to make custard pudding. So I could imagin it althugh I was worried until it was fimished. All of us did good job so every dish was very good. I had a nice time. Kiki Sun Nov 23 at 22.00 Last month I took an English test called Eiken the first stage of the second grade. Fortunately I passed it. Today I took the oral one. I was very nervous at the test so I couldn't do it well. I don't need any English qualification but I want to pass it. I have to wait for about a month to get the result. Kiki Sun Nov 16 at 17.52 Thank you for your advice, Kiki. I haven't got a Hotmail address yet. But I'm not good at computers. When my elder daughter will come to my home the end of this month, I'm going to ask her about it. Cherry Sat Nov 15 at 22.31 Cherry, have you got a Hot mail address? If you haven't it yet. I suggest you to get it before go to New Zealand. If you have it you can get e-mails anywhere there is a computur. I think it's useful abroad. Kiki Thu Nov 13 at 15.48 Thanks Kiki. When I learned the word, I had kept it in mind as two words. One was "acrobat" and the other was "phobia". Besides I remembered the another word of "agoraphobia". But I completely forgot them. Cherry Tue Nov 11 at 23.01 I'm sorry, Simon, Anti and Cherry. I made a mistake. At the class I said the word highphobia. It was wrong. I should have said acrophobia inatead of it. Sorry I have a bad memory. Kiki Tue Nov 11 at 16.54 Dear my friend, how are you and your family? I received a report including your photos the other day. It's only six months since I got your photos at the first time. I'm very happy and surprised to see your new photos. You have grown up so much. By the way last August I had a grandson. So now I have two grandchildren. One of them is a girl. She is a year and eleven months. I send my photo that was taken at a park. Cherry Mon Nov 10 at 12.01 Yes, indeed. I'm going to go there from the 16th to the 19th next week. It's true that mother's job is forever if the children asked. First I refused her asking. But the next time my elder daughter told me about it and asked again. I couldn't turn down. Cherry Sun Nov 9 at 20.21 This morning I went to an elementary school near my house for the Hose of Representatives election. I hope the candidate who I voted will win. I want to change the present government. Because they are going to send the Self- Defence Force to Iraq and want to change the Japanese Constitution. I think we should keep Article 9 of Constitution. Kiki Sun Nov 9 at 16.53 Cherry, are you going to your daughter's place? When are you going? Last week didn't you say that you refused your daughter's asking? Did you change your mind? I know that mother's job is forever. Anyway have a nice days! Kiki Sun Nov 9 at 12.36 It's a month since my younger daughter went back to home. After that she has to look after her children by herself. It is the most difficult for her to give them a bath. Usually her husband helps her. But he's going to go to Tokyo on his business. So she asked me to come to home while he will be out. I'll be away for 4 days. It's nice for me to see my grandchildren again. Cherry Sun Nov 9 at 11.58 Dear friend, I'm sorry to hear that you've got flu. How's your feeling? In Japan it's not going around so far. I'm going to get flu vaccination soon. The Japanese govermment recomended elderly pepole to get it and they help part of the cost. I hope you'll get over soon. Kiki Fri Nov 7 at 12.42 At last I found the article about Mr. Murooka this morning. When I heard about a kite photo from Simon before I thought it's a new technology. I was surprised to hear that it has used for a long time. Kiki Wed Nov 5 at 10.31 I saw some leaves called "habotan" in Japan at Michiko's garden. When I had seen them, I thought that this year will soon be ending. People usually plant them at the end of year. There are three kinds of habotans. One is maruha-habotan, another is chirimen-habotan and the other is kireha-habotan. Michiko told me about it last year. If I didn't forget it, maybe it's true. I'm going to buy one of them tomorrow. Cherry Tue Nov 4 at 23.40 Michiko also read about Mr Murooka in the paper yesterday. He has written a lovely book about kite photography which I bought recently. Some of his pictures are amazing. He inspires me and I'm a great fan of his. Simon Sat Nov 1 at 9.32 Simon is interested in kites. After knowing about it, sometimes I have been noticing the news of kites. Today I found out about it in newspapers. Mr. Murooka is a famous kites photographer. He taught foreign people how to make Japanese kites and how to take the aerial photos of kites. He takes the pictures of kite using a kite and a camera in the sky. Cherry Fri Oct 31 at 23.43 Today I went to the cooking class. When I was young, I didn't go to a cooking school. Michiko taught us delicious dishes. I have had wonderful time with them. We made four dishes. But we couldn't eat Summer Pudding for dinner. It needs to leave overnight in the fridge. I'm looking forward to eating it tomorrow. Cherry Sun Oct 26 at 20.36 I'm going to cooking class tomorrow. I've got a recipe two weeks ago.Sometimes I read it. But there were a lot of special cooking words such as dice, drain, halve, whish, discard, simmer, dislodge and so on in it. I couldn't understand the word of "mouldy". But I made sense. I like eating better than cooking. Cherry Sat Oct 25 at 20.23 Several days ago, I went to Ikebukuro. As it was raining, there were a lot of people homeless in a subway. I found a bag lady among of them. The Japanese economic situation is still worse though I wonder why she was in. Cherry Sat Oct 25 at 10.23 I watched a drama "Fujiko Hemingway" on TV several days ago. I remembered that when one of our classmates had listened to her piano playing, she had had a deep impression. She saied that it was very warm and wonderful. She doesn't hear by her right ear and she hears only 40 percent by her left ear though. She became a great pianist. Cherry Mon Oct 20 at 15.14 I heard a lovely story in our English class last week. One of our classmates is wearing a nice necklace with a pendant. When her husband was live, he had worn it. After he died, she has worn it as her charm. cherry Sat Oct 18 at 10.07 Dear, friend. I'm very happy to hear that you are fine and you had a busy and happy summer. To tell you the truth I've been worried about you. Yes, the film I told you “Callas Forever” was based on Maria Callas’ life. Actually it wasn’t exactly a true. It’s raining now. The weather is getting cold day by day here in Tokyo. I'll write you again soon. Kiki Tue Oct 14 at 23.19 Last night I took a make up lesson. Thank you very much for everyone's help at Thursday's class. I enjoyed studying English with all of you. The lesson was a bit difficult for me though. By the way I haven't realized your " PS" Simon. I'm really careless. Today I have a trouble with my computer. I couldn’t go through e-mails now. I want my son to solve it. But he is out now. I’m very sad. Kiki Fri Oct 10 at 22.50 Dear Simon thank you very much for sending me the notes. I listend to the tape again and again although there were some words that I couldn't catch. Now I've got all of them what you spoke. Kiki Wed Oct 1 at 13.03 Dear friend. Thank you very much for yor e-mail. I'm glad to hear that you are getting better. I've been very busy these days. This week I went to my daughters place twice to look after my elder grand daughter. She is a second grade student of elementary school. So she didn't bother me a lot. I rather enjoyed plaing with her. Although I got tired. Kikii Sat Sep 20 at 11.57 Last Tuesday I got a leaflet about some events in English school. One is cooking classes in English, another is Kite Festival and the other is enjoying the Rose Garden. I'm looking forward to taking part in those events. Cherry Thu Sep 11 at 8.15 Pepe(is it right spell?) I was very happy to see you at the class the other day. I found your name on the Net. Then I've known you had done some great works. I look forward to seeing you again. Kiki Sat Sep 6 at 10.47 Last night, it was thunderstorm. Becouse of it the Yamanote line stopped. So I had to go home by a roundabout route. It took me 15 mimutes longer than usual. Kiki Thu Sep 4 at 10.45 Cherry, I missed it on that night. So I tried to see it last night. Unfortunately the sky was dark. According to the news we'll be able to see it untill October. I'll try seeing it tonight. Kiki Fri Aug 29 at 11.04 In spite of cloudy, I saw the Mars with naked eyes yesterday. We will see it around southeast in the night sky during a month. The Mars comes nearest to the earth after 60000 years. Does anyone else see it? Cherry Thu Aug 28 at 15.39 I got a letter from my foster child. So I'd like to send the massage below. Dear、Franklin. I'm glad to hear you are fine and you liked the pictures, which I sent. It's terrible hot here in Tokyo today. We had the long chilly wet days this summer though. I'm pleased to hear that you are going to leave from elementary school soon. Are you going to go to a junior high school? I hope so. Studying things are important for our life. I’m still learning English. If you study hard your dreams come true someday. Please help your family. I look forward to getting your letter. Kiki Sat Aug 23 at 16.43 Dear my friend. How have you been? I'm sorry I haven't written you for a long time. How was your trip? I wondered whether you suffered anything by the typhoon or not at that time. See you soon. Kiki Fri Aug 22 at 11.18 It's 49 days since my mother passed away. It was heavy rainy in the small hours and coincidence her birthday. I couldn't see on her deathbed. She was 92 years old though. I wish she could be alive more. I still could not get over her death. Cherry Thu Aug 21 at 17.51 Kiki, I've got mine today. But I made a mistake in part A in the NHK listening test. So I got 97.5 points in it. It will be gone on next year. I think that I have to study hard to get a perfect score like you. Cherry Mon Aug 18 at 23.33 Congratulations, Kiki. I'm very glad and jealous to learn that you got a perfect score another NHK listening test. I haven't got mine yet. I would like to get full marks the same as you. Cherry Fri Aug 15 at 12.51 I have a good news. I got a perfect score on the other NHK listening test. Although it was easier than the first one, I'm pleased. Kiki Thu Aug 14 at 18.16 Bon–odori has been holding in the circus in front of Jujo station during this weekend. I had bought Yukata for my granddaughter. She is a year and six months old. It was too long for her to wear, so I remade it. I went to Bon-odori with my daughter and her yesterday. She was excited to see the dance and to wear Yukata. Cherry Sun Aug 10 at 0.08 Dear Barbara. How are you? How was your holiday? I hear the weather in Europe is terrible these days. How's your place? Now a typhoon is coming in Japan. So it's rainy here in Tokyo and some times it become hard with strong wind. I hope it would go without big damage around here. I went to a resort in Yamanashi prefecture to listen to chamber music with some friends. The hotel we stayed has a music hall and they are held summer concert every year. The concert was held three nights but I only stayed one night. I look forward to hearing you. Kiki Sat Aug 9 at 11.40 I got my results yesterday too, Cherry. I was ranked upper A. I cheated one question though. I couldn't catch the question so I listened to it again. I've also done the other version and sent them to NHK. I'm looking forward to getting the result. Kiki Thu Aug 7 at 16.29 Hi, Kiki. Have you already got the answer of the NHK listening test? I got it yesterday. Especially I made four mistakes in ten questions at the part C. From these questions I couldn't image their scenery. Therefore I couldn't catch on them in detail. I will try the test next year again. Cherry Thu Aug 7 at 13.10 Yesterday I went to see an opera called "Norma" at Shin-Kokuritu Opera Theater with my eldest daughter. I sometimes saw an opera on TV though it was not interesting. But I was very impressed with it. I can't understand Italian language but I could make out it by using the subtitle. The leading actress song them with her very beautiful voice, coloratura soprano. I would like to see an opera again. Cherry Fri Aug 1 at 18.04 Hi, Kiki. I didn't notice that the program had already started from last Monday. So I am studying it from the unite 4 on last Thursday. Some pronunciations such as " tile" and "tie" are very difficult for me. I couldn't catch them. It is not fair though, I sometimes tried to listen to the tape. I just finished the test yesterday. I thought that it was more difficult than an annual one. Cherry Mon Jul 28 at 10.59 Dear Yayoiko. Have you done the NHK radio listening test? I've done it yesterday. I recorded it so if you need it please let me know. It was a bit difficult for me. Recently, I couldn't concentrate for a long time. I think it's because of my age. I would like to know the correct answers soon. So I'll send my answers tomorrow to the NHK. They'll check my answers and send them back to me. Kiki Sun Jul 27 at 15.38 Have you finished watching the videos which you rent yet? Apicot. I've never seen the film called Philadelphia story. But I read the summary of it in the book written about movies. It seems fun. My favorite actor James Stewart got an oscar for it. I'd like to see it someday. How about the other one? Kiki Sat Jul 26 at 15.03 It has passed seven years since my eldest sister died of cancer. At that time one of four persons died of it but recently one of three died. From the news, the government is planning how to decrease cancer mortality rate. I hope this investigation. Cherry Sat Jul 26 at 10.48 I'm sorry Kiki! I couldn't send you my message, because I mistook my ID. Thank you for letting me know the Japanese title. I remembered it. I've rent two more filmes of Katharine Hepburn. One of them is ' Philadelphia Story', another's 'Love Among the Ruins' ( TV movie with Lawrence Olivie). I'm not sure about a film. I didn't see films very well when I was young. Now I enjoy it. Apricot Wed Jul 23 at 13.43 Finally, I finished watchinng a video called Hamlet. It was wonderful. Hamlet was filmed several times. I watched the one filmed in 1996 in England. After I watched it I knew why the most actors want to act the roll of him. If I had enough free time I'd like to watch it again and again. Kiki Tue Jul 22 at 18.53 It was very nice meeting both of you, Apricot and Daisy on Tuesday. Thank you for your kindness. I enjoyed studying English with you. That was a bit difficult for me though. I’m looking forward to reading your messages soon. Oh! I found the Japanese title of the film called " On Golden Pond" which you mentioned at that time, Apricot. It's called Tasogare in Japanese. Kiki Thu Jul 17 at 18.39 Last night I went to a wake for a friend. I used to study English with her. She died of cancer. I'm very sad. I think she was around 65 years old. She died 20 years earlier than the average women's life span. kiki Tue Jul 15 at 22.47 According to the news of the average life span, a woman in Japan is 85.23 years old. It's the oldest in the world. Meanwhile a man is 78.32 years old. It's the second oldest in the world. Our life expectancy is more increasing. We could live to an old age. Cherry Tue Jul 15 at 10.27 Today I have finished to be covering for a friend of mine. I'm relieved. One of my coworkers gave me a beautiful bouquet. They are very kind and friendly. I'm very glad to be working with them. Cherry Mon Jun 30 at 22.37 I was in the English class on Friday's night during two months. One of classmate is studying industrial design at collage. She explained how to draw an outline and how to carve some wood to like stones. I was looking forward to hearing her story every week. I'm very glad to come the same class again from next month. Cherry Sat Jun 28 at 13.50 Simon I'm glad to hear that you liked the story. To be honest I haven't finished it yet. I thought I should have bought a copy of Japanese version. I need a dictionary to read it however I’ll try it hard. Kiki Fri Jun 20 at 10.24 I've just finished reading a copy of the play 'One Hundred Sacks Of Rice' (Kome Hyappyo) which Kiki has kindly donated to our small 'library' of English books. It's a dramatisation by Yamamoto Yuso of the inspirational story about Kobayashi Torasaburo who lived in Nagaoka. I expect Kome Hyappyo is well known to most Japanese. But this moving story with its great message about education was new to me and I'm very greateful to Kiki for the pleasure it gave me. Simon Thu Jun 19 at 22.36 I got an e-mail from an English friend, Barbara. According to it she went to Amusterdam with her daughter. They visited Anne's house. I remembered the book, Anne's diary. I read it when I was younger. I also saw the play that was based on the book. I thought we have to remember the fact of the tragedy Kiki Mon Jun 2 at 20.24 I finished a book called Kinu Ogi (silk folding fan) written by Setsuko Tsumura. It was about a woman who was born in middle of Meiji in Fukui prefecture. Her family was poor so she had to work when she was a child. She had a hard life. She got married to an owner of a small silk weaving factory. Afterwards they worked very hard then their factory was getting bigger and bigger. But because of the big earthquake the Japanese economy was going down. That was why their business became very hard. Besides her husband died of heart attack. Eventually they became bankrupt. Fortunately some kind people helped her. I was moved by the story. At the beginning of the book I thought it was a success story. But I was wrong. Kiki Sat May 31 at 18.53 According to the news recently Honduras people performed Japanese play “Kome Hyappyo (100 sacks of rice)" in Tegucigalpa. I was surprised to hear that. The Japanese ambassador and some other Japanese helped it. The story was based on a historical event in Nagaoka. And the Prime Minister Koizumi quoted the story in his speech. After I read the news I checked about it on the Net. I found several sites. One of them is Nagaoka city’s official one. They have published Japanese and English version of the story. I ordered a copy of English version by e-mail. I’m looking forward to getting it. Kiki Wed May 28 at 13.51 I went to Shibuya to see a film called D.I that Michiko recommended. First I got lost there. Then I asked a man how to get the theater. I show the map I printed from the Net. He said you took a wrong exit, the teater was opposite side. Thanks to his help I finally got there. The film was a bit difficult for me. Afterwards I bought a book written about the film. I thought I should have seen the film after I read it. Kiki Mon May 26 at 21.43 Cherry I’m sorry to hear that you had a bad day last week. I think it is hard to work at a busy shop. Well, last Thursday I visited my junior high teacher in Mobara, Chiba prefecture. It has been past for long years since I left the school. We keep in touch from time to time. About three years ago when I met him I recommended using e-mail. Then last year he started it. Since then we have been exchanging e-mails. One day he invited me to his place. He said May is the best season to go there. He took me some his favorite places by car. We enjoyed talking a lot of things. I took limited express from Mobara to Tokyo. I had wonderful one-day trip. Kiki Mon May 26 at 10.24 Last Wednesday was the worst day for me. First my customer complained to me that I hadn't counted quickly. She said to me that you are slow. I'm not used to scanning the bar code on goods. Next I had broken the frames of my glasses. During noontime I repaired it and bought new frames. But I had short of money. The shopkeeper lent me a thousand yen kindly. Last I hurt the back of my right knee. I have been standing through a day for five hours. When I retired, I didn't work for a long time. Besides the work as a shop assistant is new. But the coworkers are friendly and kindly. Cherry Sat May 24 at 11.44 I'm sorry I made a mistake. I wanted to correct my message but it was too late. Kiki Fri May 23 at 10.01 Cherry, I have a copy of the same book that you mentioned. I think it is very useful. I’ve already finished it. But I hadn’t done it eagerly so I don’t remember all of them. Sometimes I review it. I also have a book called English grammar in use. I recommend it. Kiki Fri May 23 at 9.54 Cherry, I have the same copy of the book that you mentioned. I think it is very useful. I’ve already finished it. But I hadn’t done it eagerly so I don’t remember all of them. Sometimes I review it. I also have a book called English grammar in use. I recommend it. Kiki Fri May 23 at 9.53 Kiki, I didn't know them exactly. But now I have studied the part of "a lot much many" in the book, "Essential Grammar in Use". The book explains the meaning of these words very much. I understand it. Cherry Thu May 22 at 22.24 Yesterday I learned about usage of the words many, much, and a lot of at the class. Before that all I had known were many is used for countable noun much is for uncountable ones and we can use a lot of both of them. I knew they are not such simples. The teacher taught us generally much and many are used in negative sentences and questions. I had practiced how to use them by grammar book before. So when I got home I checked the book and I found the same thing that our teacher taught in the book . I realized how I had studied carelessly. Kiki Wed May 21 at 11.57 Kiki, the lilies of the valley in this year are flowering less than these in an annual. I also wonder about it. I would like to ask an assistant of the flower shop. She knows flowers in detail. Cherry Tue May 20 at 21.38 Cherry as I wrote I got a stage fright at that time so I don't remember how long I had spoken exactly. May be it was less than 20 minutes. By the way I also have some liles of the valley in my small garden. But they didn't have any floweres this year. Should I replant or something to do for them? Kiki Mon May 19 at 20.51 Kiki, that sounds great. You had a good experience. How long did you speak for? I only made a wedding speech for three minutes. Did you get any questions from the audience? Cherry Sun May 18 at 22.11 Yesterday I went to Urawa city hall to talk about my experience of visiting my foster child. It was the annual meeting of the people who have a foster child and live near Urawa. It is called URAWANOKAI. There were over 20 people. I have prepared what to talk before and tried to learn by hart. Though I had a butterfly in my stomach, so my voice was shaking. I couldn’t stop it. But I think my talk was not so bad. If my voice was normal, it was perfect. But I don’t want to talk in front of people anymore. Kiki Sun May 18 at 17.13 Last Sunday was Mother's Day. I'm a mother as well as a daughter. I had already got a present from my daughters. So I went to my sister's home because my mother has been living there since last November. I had taken some food as a present. Recently she doesn't want anything. She dosen't care how to live. I hope she will have her will to do something. Cherry Sat May 17 at 22.58 There were some large pale pink flowers in the vase at our English school. It's called "peony". There are two kinds of peonies in Japan. One is called "Syakuyaku" and they are flowering plants. The other is called "Botan" and they are flowering trees. The peonies that I saw last night were "Syakuyaku". They were very beautiful. Cherry Sat May 17 at 20.28 The lilies of the valley are now in full bloom in our garden. First time, a friend of mine had given me a container of the flowers and I planted them in our garden. And then they are increasing. They have a lovely smell. Cherry Thu May 15 at 21.18 Cherry you are very lucky, because you have wonderful daughters. I just got a call from my daughter. She apologized to me that she didn't do anything. I said don't worry about that you are also mother. I know her situation. But it was better than nothing. Well, How's your work? I missed you today. We had a new friend called Etsuko. She is very nice. We learned from Michiko today. I enjoyed the class after for three weeks. See you soon. Kiki Tue May 13 at 17.21 Yesterday was a mother's day. I had already got a present from my daughters. When our eldest daughter came to our house during the end of April, they treated me French food. We have been there since the French restaurant had opened 13 years ago. There are a lot of delicious foods in the restaurant. I would kike to go there again. Cherry Mon May 12 at 22.02 Kiki, I`m glad that you`ll probably go to see `D.I.` It`s not just because we like to support Palestine, but also because it`s a highly enlightening and enjoyable film. The cinema`s in Sakura Dori which is 2 minutes from the South Exit of JR Shibuya. I think the language is Arabic with Japanese subtitles. Please have fun. Michiko Sun May 11 at 16.28 Today I had my stomach tested with a fiberscope. It was third time to have the test. So I’ve got used to it. Afterwards doctor told me a result. He said you don’t have any serious problem. You just have a slight inflammation in your gullet. I relieved to hear that. Kiki Sun May 11 at 12.39 Michiko, the film you saw seems fun. I read about the story on the Net. According to it it was made by French and Palestinian crews. What language did the characters speak? If I have a free time I want to see it. I've never gone to the cinema. Kiki Sun May 11 at 12.19 We saw ` D.I.`today. It`s a Palestinian film which America's Zionist Academy of Films refused to consider for this year's oscars because it was from Palestine. It was strange but quite interesting. We enjoyed it very much and it`s certainly different from Hollywood movies. It`s on at Eurospace in Shibuya till the end of the month. Michiko Fri May 9 at 0.36 Cherry, IÂ’m sorry to hear that your granddaughter is allergic to animals. Actually I have a catÂ’s allergy. I havenÂ’t had any medical tests yet, but when I am near cats I get allergic reactions such as sneeze, itchy eyes and so on. Kiki Mon May 5 at 18.19 On the 28th of April I went to Shinjuku Gyoen with my daughter's family. We saw rare flowers. It was a big tree with a lot of pretty white flowers. They look like white handkerchiefs. So it called a tree of handkerchief (I don't know the English name). I'm very glad to see them. Cherry Mon May 5 at 12.10 I work in a chemist as a shop assistant since May. One of my friends works there. But she has to go London for two months because her daughter is expecting a second baby. She has to look after her grandson. I’m covering for her. I have to stand for five hours a day. After I retired, I have been spending a carefree life. So it is quite very hard to me. One of my friends said to me that it is only a point through your life. It is true. I would like to enjoy working my new work. Cherry Mon May 5 at 11.29 Our daughter and her child stayed at our house from the 20th of April to the 29th of April. Our granddaughter is 14 months old. She can't walk herself but can walk with some help. She can not only crawl but also go up the stairs very well. During the New Year holiday they had come to our house, she had had a rash on her body. She had taken a medical test. And she is allergic to animals. We keep a dog in our house for ten years. We had to separate her from a dog. It was hard to us. Cherry Sun May 4 at 21.14 This afternoon I bumped in to one of my friends on the way to shopping. We have a mutual friend who learned English with the same class. She has been a health problem since last year. Because of that she had got a serious operation last year. According to the friend she had been in the hospital for a week last month. IÂ’m worried about her. Kiki Fri May 2 at 20.17 Yesterday I met my best friend at a coffee shop. We talked about a lot of things over a cup of coffee. We have been learning English for a long time. We agreed that how difficult to speak correct English is. She has had a problem with her new English class. She thinks the new English teacherÂ’s way of teaching donÂ’t suit her. So she blamed it to the school manager. Then he promised to make a new class for some students who have a similar problem. Finally he made it. She can join the new class from today. I said congratulations, and I hope your new class would be going well. Kiki Wed Apr 23 at 10.54 Today I watched a movie called I.Q, Japanese title was Hoshi Ni Negaio on TV. To be honest I wasnÂ’t happy, because I donÂ’t want to be older any more. But my grand daughters made me happy. They phoned me and sang the song “Happy birthday to you” for me. I was very pleased to hear their song. Kiki Sat Apr 12 at 10.26 When I went to my sister's home, I got on the Seibu line from Ikebukuro. I had a seat and a woman set down the next seat. It is spreading in the world. Cherry Fri Apr 11 at 16.46 I went to my granddaughterÂ’s kindergarten for the entering ceremony yesterday. There was a cherry tree in the garden. Liz Fri Mar 15 at 20.17 Liz, I think the secret is that everything happened there had been predicted. Michiko Fri Mar 15 at 11.27 Michiko, Appreciated very much your advice. I'm very happy to receive your message. To be honest, I finished the book though I didn't notice the big secret you pointed out. Isn't the secret that the family died out and everything was right back where it began? I'm not satisfied with my interpretation because it seems to me too immature. Would you mind if I ask you any hints to find out the secret or where it was written? Looking forward to hearing from you again. Thank you. Liz Thu Mar 14 at 22.24 Liz, I actually enjoyed the book very much when I read it several years ago. Although I can't remember the details of it, what gripped me at first was the life in a closed society in South-America, the uniquely strange people and their various, sometimes incestuous relationships . Gradually the title of the book made me expect that there must be a big secret which everything was going towards. Yes, there was! I found it nearly at the end. I've still been wondering if it is an analogy of something in general. Michiko Wed Mar 13 at 21.57 Hi Liz, Thank you for changing your name.
